| Have changed the tyres of my Logan; Bridgestone Turanza ER 60; 195/60/R15
Ride quality and handling seem better that my stock JK 175/70/R14; though these have hardly done about 28,000 km, however since they were about six yrs old, one did not want to take any chance with the state of the rubber of the tyre

| Myself have the BS Turanza from 55000 onwards. Now at 96000 they are still good to go. Overall much better than the stock JK Vectra. For a mix of city and Highway drive this seemed to be agood choice. Next change, if neded, I might look at another brand depending on feedback from forum members. | |

| What is the impact on getting a broader tyre ?
I am planning to change my tyres and would like to understand what difference it will make if I get a 195/60 instead of 185/70.

| Generally speaking a broader tyre will have more surface contact with the road and hence better traction. Since 195/65 has lower profile that 185/70, cushioning will be lesser and is better avoided if you are likely to use the cehicle on rough roads. Your vehicle will also be sitting closer to the road compared to a 185/70. Apart from this, usual checking points are clearance from the frame, to make sure there is no possibility of fouling under all load conditions.
However, do look at the below aspect as well.
With a 195/60, your tire wall height will be 117mm (4.6"). Add your tire diameter to this (15") and you have an overall tire dia of 24.2" [Circumfrence will be = 76"]
In case of a 185/70, wall height will be 129.5mm (5") and overall tire dia will be 25.2". [Circumfrence will be = 79"]
Therefore, with 195/60 tire, you will be actually covering lesser distance per rotation of the wheel and hence, if your odometer says 100km, you would have actually travelled only 96km.
Purely mathematical.

| Many thanks for the elaborate response @vsuprak. Now I am clear that I should continue with the original specification of 185/70. | |
