| Hi All
Mahindra Logan, 2008 November Model, 1.5 dCi, odo Reading 130000 km.
Recently I see coolant temperature alarm intermittently lighting up along with Engine knock (Serious knock with cracking kinda noise). To my surprise only four blocks in temperature level which is quite normal even before it alarms. Oil service was done 3 months back. Oil levels were perfect as per Company's instructions.
At this state, if I switch off and switch on ignition, alarm clears (while running & stand still) and I would be able to drive for a few more kilometers before it alarms again
While knocking if I continue to run, engine shuts off after a while. Engine restart is the only option.
Issue comes while running in city mostly, but faced it in long trips too.
Mechanic scanned the car and found two alarms logged in memory. Rail pressure low & Rail pressure high. He cleared it and drove again, same alarms popped up.
My mechanic said it could be fuel line issue. 1. He removed Diesel tank, cleaned the strainer. 2. Replaced Diesel high pressure pump from another logan which runs good 3. Replaced Rail pressure sensor assembly (Delphi) from another logan which runs good
Heater plugs were just got replaced (Bosch brand) 3 months back
Still issue persists. Mechanic further told me that he will check Diesel Injectors. Its still in garage.
Any lights in this issue?. Will be grateful for your advices.
Note: Added injector cleaner 350ml solution to full tank diesel once, not sure if that caused the issue.
Thanks Vineeth | |

| , my logan still in garage (almost 5 weeks). I see some progress. They removed all 4 injectors, de-carbonized. 3 of them performed well at test bench but one got damaged nozzle, in fact it partially does what it was supposed to. New one cost 12000 INR, mechanic arranged a second hand one in good condition for 6000 INR, waiting for an update back from them. Must be hitting the road this Thursday hopefully. | |

| When does knocking of engine start? After starting your engine when it is cold, how much time does it take for the knocking to start? | |

| Cold start never gives alarm and knock, to rule out I changed all 4 glow plugs 3 months back (Bosch brand). When Engine runs in city, especially in 2nd, 3rd gear / When engine heats up / log drive - gives temperature alarm followed by knock and finally engine shutdown. In fact alarm + knock frequency is more in city than highways during day times. In opposite, it even gave alarm at night too.
Still troubleshooting going on at Garage, they suspect wiring fault.

| Your car is getting overheated. Fault with electrical can only be if cooling fan does not start.
When you first start your car which would be usually morning, if the engine runs fine, does not miss or knock and only knocks after getting heated which would be lets say after 15 to 40 minutes of engine running, then the fault lies in cooling system.
Do not run an overheated engine. Chances of damage to engine are there.
What is the level of coolant in reservoir bottle? When your car engine is heated, did you observe that your radiator cooling fan is working? Also the cooling fan has two speeds, a low and a high. In city driving the temperature starts to go above 100 degrees Celsius and if high RPM of fan does not happen then the temperature will keep rising.

| Coolant levels are as per instructions. Fan just works as intended. Got the car scanned from Mahindra, quoted 1.5 lakhs for Diesel high pressure pump & injectors replacement. Even If I go for it, they do not guarantee a solution (always says may get corrected etc)
Myself tested the diesel return flow from injectors, they just drips (2 drops a second ~) on all 4 injectors when there is no alarm. But when there is alarm, return flow is immense from all 4, I could here zzzz ____zzzz____ sound repeating the pattern every 2 seconds from engine while alarm. Also ~10V is being passed to injectors instead of 2V while alarm. I felt injectors & pump just works fine. It must be issue from wiring.
So again went back to my mechanic. Told him the facts. They now behind the Engine wiring.
Will update the results.

| My logan, 2007 1.5 dci DLS is having the exact same problem since almost a month. Got the diesel injectors serviced but still not resolved. Mechanic is clueless, talking about replacing the ECM but i am skeptical and suspect some wiring problem. Hoping you got your car problem solved. Can you please share some details of the solution. Thanks. | |

| Finally issue was resolved by replacing ECM Remember just ECM replacement doesn't make your engine running. Replace ECM, BCM, Key Set & Meter console (optional) All in all its costly affair if you go for new. Instead go for second one. Note: Door locks also may need to be replaced ... Possible Reason for faulty ECM: High pressure wash in engine compartment is not recommended, might cause the ECM pin shorted. | |

| Another help, how much did it cost you for the fixes? Thanks again. Nov 7th is my car's 10th year, wanted to spend some money to deck it up, give a new look but now because of this problem I am already down by 28K, so need your input. Thanks again. Take care. | |

| Luckily I got a contact from my friend who owns many logans (taxi operator). He had a Logan that was stalled... he gave me all stuffs (ECM, BCM & Key set) for 18000 Rs. Though too much, I preferred this way than going to Mahindra, buy ECM, program to match with existing BCM & Key set etc. They definitely gonna loot you. New ECM costs 36000 Rs or more or so in Europe, not sure in India. Two ways: 1. Try second market. Make sure you get all pieces mentioned including door key set. Else you will have to carry 2 keys, one for ignition & another for doors 2. Buy new ECM, program it at Mahindra. | |

| After ECM/BCM/Key Replacement, engine was running smooth till last week. Now again back to old days, knock begins with tik tik tik (possibly from injector) in idle mode and engine shuts down. Symptoms observed this time are following 1. Coolant alarms with knock sound - like last time 2. No big bursting knock sound like last time but its noticeable from the cabin with windows up. 3. With acceleration from idle, alarm and knock goes off. 4. Stop go traffic reproduces the issue. Bottom line: Low rpm/idling/stop go traffic brings the issue back. Anyone, please help with comments. Am kinda lost. | |
