| I was travelling back from work yesterday and the engine suddenly started making huge noise. It was kind of gravel beating. Its there even when the engine is idling. Noise is more in first and second gear and surprisingly its not there in third gear. Vehicle has done 65k KMS. I have checked the engine oil which is below min level, will refill the same and check again. Vehicle is due for the 60k service where accessory belt replacement is recommended. Can this be the culprit? I am hesitating to start the engine because of the sound and fear that i could damage it more. Pls suggest. | |

| Hi Deccansand, Is it only the noise or is there a difference in the pickup (response to throttle) as well? I had one such experience when I was driving with family to Yercaud. It felt it intermittently over 60kmph and it felt as though the car was not willing to take any more acceleration. Back then, it was a case of a choked EGR Valve. It sounded exactly like "Grrrrrr" as though there was some improper meshing happening inside the engine and the car felt "un-heavy" to throttle. You can read more of it here https://mahindralogan.forumotion.com/t677-grinding-growling-noise-when-acceleratingHope it helps Surya | |

| I have asked one of the Mahindra mechanic ( known to me) to come down to my place and check it out. He says it its because of torn boot and oil leakage. He suggested me to tow it to workshop for further repair. Arranged to send the vehicle today morning. He says something would have hit the boot. I dont remember riding on any rough road/patch!!!!! anyways now they would change the boot and refill the oil and test drive.
@Surya; there was no change in acceleration, but the noise was unbearable.
@stu; Engine oil was below min. My fault as i delayed refill thinking that i would send it for servicing.
Will keep you updated. | |

| Dear all,
I am new on this forum & quite excited to read the reviews of all you experts on my one of the favourites Logan car. I also have purchased a Mahindra certified Logan diesel 1.5 DLX this month.
ODO shows 54000. Had a test drive earlier & found the issues like
air filter choke ( just by firing of engine).
All other things are perfect.like suspension, tyres, steering etc
Got the Delivery on 20th Oct. Changed the jet black oil to new oil of Wuerth 20W50,replaced oil filter, Cleaned Air filter which was clogged with dust which was equal of dust in whole 5000 sqft hall after 2 days of marriage.
After which engine sounded superb. Pick up was great...Power is fantastic.
I could not checked the milage as I haven't made the tank full yet.
Last Sunday I was on the way to my relatives at Karjat with all my family of 4 people. Fuel was enough hence i just checked the tyre pressure at pump with digital filling pump.Made it 32 psi all tyres.By mistake I took a wrong route which was full of potholes for at least 20 kms. The ride wasn't comfortable at all. My whole body started aching after few kms. Then I doubted the air pressure . Found a local air mechanic checked the pressure. IT WAS 20 for all four. He filled my rubber with right presure on his dial & VOILA... the car was again fantastic with its suspension & no impact felt.
I reached my relateies completed the visit & on the way back i took highway route. Now there is humming sound with woofer on is coming in the cabin. It is not coming when the accl. pedal is not pressed . But when I does so & rpm reaches 1800 the sound comes so high i have to pull down the speed. I couldn't muster the courage to cruiz over 50kmph on top gear. Some grinding noise also started to come after few time. I reached home checked any leakages near suspension. but all was ok. I cranked the car, stood out side & told my father to rev up the engine. No abnormal sound came except healthy engine roar. BUt my father told he experienced a jet fighter plane behind the steering (the humming with woofer).
So I request you all expert guys to suggest what may be the problem.
I showed the car to G3 motors(MASS) in dombivli while coming from office yesterday. The Supervisor checked all & said need to check EGR. & told to book appointment rpior 2 days.means I'l get the solution eithr on friday or saturday.
But all knowledge getting from your blogs i neither found any reduction in pick up nor thick black smoke from the tailpipe. may be lower FE. but don't know about that...
So guys what could be the problem.....? | |

| I know soundproofing in logan is not top class but dont think it makes lound nosie for you to reduce the speed. Since the vehicle was on bad roads Just check the bottom of the engine for any leakages. Even a stray stone at soft spot could damage. | |

| Ha ! Since reading again and you had less than minimum oil in your Motor I am a bit worried for you ! What "BOOT" do you mean ? Do you mean a Gasket ? You can also get a rumbling noise from the water-pump when it decides to pack in ! IT COULD ALSO BE THE TURBO ! They make one hell of a noise when they are going ! watch this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UP9mb9kqUWE | |

| Took delivery of the car. As diagnosed the drive shaft boot kit got damaged because of which there was leakage from gear box. They replaced the boot kit, refilled the gearbox oil. Car is running fine now. Book kit (Bellow kit-LH Gearbox side) - 1713/- Oil - ELF Tranself TRJ 75w80w - 3 ltrs - 1416/- Labour charges - 500/- Since this was 60K+ service i changed the Oil filter, Air filter, Fuel filter along with clutch cable. Grand total 10k paid ( including above cost). | |

| The drive shaft boot only covers the Joint and protects it from the weather !!! So you must have also paid for a drive shaft Bearing !! only that could make the oil drain from the Gearbox ! and Do you have rats ???? Rats are know to eat the rubber Boot on driveshafts in India !

| I don't know yet. But i feel towards driver side.
I'll go in the evening there & update, But the mechanic said nothing to worry about It will be replaced immediately.& he told me availability after 2 days & price Rs.5800/-. I started to serach for the part with mahindra dealer & sourced after confirming the original part no.6001549202 for Renault Imported mounting. & found it for Rs.4000/-.
Will Update more... | |
