Odometer is at the 1800km mark and will approach 2 months running next week

As for now I have been asked by the dealer's technical person NOT to use any premium petrol now ... so have been religiously using plain unleaded fuel.

When can I switch over to premium petrol and will there be any mileage/performance boost?

Odometer is at the 1800 mark and will approach 2 months running next week, so will go in for the first service. Lets see what the service guys say...

Theres no restriction wat so ever!! U can use watever type of fuel u want!
In case of diesel, I use only unleaded and not premium diesel. Unleaded gives me best mileage and i've confirmed it on multiple occassions! I also suggest that u use premium fuel once in a while to keep the system clean!!

Your cars are made for unleaded fuel and if your car has like ours a catalytic converter then you MUST use unleaded because if you use Leaded with it it will get ruined 1 tank fill will render it useless

Stu: We ONLY use unleaded in india right now ... but in the initial stages my car dealer has said no high octane fuels for the first 3000kms engine run-in period

we run ours on 98 octain it will run on 95 but 98 is recomended
anything higher is a waste of money it will not make it any better
in fact to high is to hot

i am running my car on BP hi speed diesel , no issues till date, form the day i bought the car its run on hi speed diesel, done 4200kms till now

The label inside the fuel tank shows "91 octane or higher". So its better to use hi-speed petrol over regular where octane rating is about 89.

Is it true that no hi-seed petrol till first service? I hope they are just rumours - no1 told that to me and i have done a tank up on Power !

"The engine is specially prepared to handle lower quality fuel" from wikipedia. As per this fuel quality dosent bother engine.

Do the Renault folks have any standard recommendation. This has more been a problem in the southern states( not sure of other) because of the hike in prices the normal petrol is rarely available and its only premium. Also curious as to how standard are these fuels say a premium of BP/HP/Shell etc...

Yea, it is a problem in Mumbai as well. Only premium iesel available at major stations. I have noticed that normal diesel gives me more mileage always..

Saumil, I think you are right, even I have noticed a drop in the mileage with premium diesels vis a vis normal unleaded diesel.

I've been using Bharat Petroleum Hi-Speed Diesel since I bought the car...
No issues till date.....
23500 Kms +
Mileage !4 in city - 20 on highways.......
and ofcourse mileage also depends on the way you drive...

well dk i agree with you on the same my car has done 5800 km now always filled hi speed diesel no issues till now i am getting a mileage of around 19 without Ac driving

well mine has done 1830 km and today because there is a great diffrence in price between regular and permium I used an octane plus from liqui moly with a full tank of regular.On the lable it says safe for cat and for a tank of 50-70 Lts it will raise octane 4 numbers.In future I will post consumption figures,but one point of interest my car runs much smoother on idle.with ac and radiator fan off and your hand on steering wheel you are hard pressed to sense engine running and my tank cap only says unleaded and nothing about regular or permium.

it happened all over south india two weeks ago. the flow of regular petrol will be back.

also, just use the regular unleaded fuel. the car will run with good mileage. Smile

Please be noticed that the leaded petrol is not available in India. Tetra Ethyl Lead (TEL) was added to petrol to increase the antiknocking property. Now the refineries have changed their process and higher Octane petrols are being sold throughout India.

For Diesel, TEL was not required. It dosent have Octane number, but have Cetane value

As per my knowledge, Premium Petrol have better octane number and chemical aditives are added for keeping the particles present in the fuel in suspension, thereby prevents formation of sludge and sediments. This prevents fuel injector blockage in long run. In addition, the additives helps for lean burn and better power output and efficiency.

For Premium diesel, read across the premium petrol.

The ogan Engine is made for eastern block countrys where the fuel is disgusting !!! You do not need any additives at all your cars computer will adjust to the fuel it has .It has a sensor that does all this and also the Lamba sond keeps the Cat in check
Do not tank leaded and do not add a lead Additive it WILL ruin the cat within 10km !!!

Should expect do better than 12-14Kmpl in moderate to light traffic, cannot expect more than 9-10Kmpl in the bumper-to-bumper stop-start rawl in Mumbai-style first/second gear peak traffic (can actually be MUCH WORSE).

On the highway, maintain a steady speed, be it 60Kmph or 90Kmph, in 5th gear and you can expect 18 to 20Kmpl.
