| Hi
I bought a Logan GLX1.4 in sept 2008. Just 57000 km and it started showing problems in starting.... sent my car for servicing to authorised mahindra ervice center. They could not detect the problem. sent it twice again. opened everything. Left my car there for three days.
Now I'm told that the self is faulty. They have to replace the self with a new one. Bill Rs. 10,000.
Anybody have an idea if the self is available in market and what would be the cost of getting it replaced from some mechanic outside.
Thanks in advance.

Sundeep Hai Sandeep Please go for a local electrician he can repair it at a very low cost . Delhi is famous for all car repairs so why you should spend this much money.

I'm a little concerned as I don't know if a car self is repairable in first place? and Logan is not as common as maruti cars...

| @ thomasmathew - Thanks. I'll try to find some mechanic who can fix it. I spoke to the guys at workshop to find out if they can repair it. He said no its not repairable.
I asked for the make of the self. He said its BOSHE or BOSCH...
Gotta find out its market price. Right now I'm getting my car back without fixing the problem. :-(

| He means the motor that cranks the engine to life.
@mediagurus - the self is repairable. Take it to a BOSCH dealer - he will advise you on the best course of action.

| @martin245
The battery is as old as my car. 2 and a half years. and they did their checkups on battery and informed all well with battery.
Yes its starts alright in the morning... even otherwise too. Just when engine is off n there is something running on battery like stereo, headlights, indicator or parking lights... after that when i start my car it refuse to start. I switch off the thing and it works.

| Well that sounds like a week battery ! I am just going out as it Happens to buy a new battery because the weather here is so cold -13 and My 5 year old battery is showing signs of its age in the mornings
another thing you could try is this drive somewhere where you can stop the car without people all round you and leave you radio and stuff on lift up the hood and Tap the starter motor give it a GOOD tap I think also you may ahave a sticky solenoid this is the bit which pulls the cogs onto the flywheel and if it does not pull fully back they will grate Stu

| Hi all Just back from the mechanic. There was a loose connection at battery. Got it fixed. Now my car is not showing any problem. Will drive around the city for a day or two to confirm even more... Mahindra servicing guys left a loose connection - i doubt intentionally. @martin245 yes even my battery is a little weak now... will get it replaced sometime soon. But i'm so relieved there was no fault at SELF or alternator etc... It was just a loose connection. I thin i saved my Rs. 10,000 that the authorised service station people asked for. | |

| Thats good news BUT it just shows we as drivers should start the problem search at the beginning which is the battery terminals ! Sorry I did not say that anyway its brilliant news and you dont have to buy any parts | |

| @ martin245 Thanks. Yes you are right.
A little update. I did a road testing yesterday. I stopped my engine at all red lights n kept my car stereo n indicators on to check if the problem is resolved. Out of around 25 times my car did not start only one time. Even earlier the problem was intermittent but now the frequency has reduced for sure.
Though m a little sad that the problem is still not resolved I think I somehow know the batter might be the culprit. Anyways I have decided to buy a new battery coming weekend as my existing one is weak now. I hope that will remove my problem forever. If not I'll have to do something about the SELF.

| How many Amps does your Battery have ? I am going to buy a 55 the one I have now is a 45 and if you have that and a POWERFULL stereo then this could be the Problem and also short tours ! go for a two hour drive and charge the battery fully short drives take more out of the battery than goes back into it | |

| YES !! But if you drive at night you are using your lights and thus taking electricity away from the loading of the battery .do a day trip and no light and if you can just SING and keep that powerfull stereo off then you will have after two hours a fully charged Battery
and Like I said short Journeys are POISON to your Battery the Amps are written normally on top of the Battery
