PostSubject: Battery down   Battery down Icon_minitimeMon Oct 13, 2008 11:42 pm

I had been out of town for 20 days and my friend did not start My Logan in between to charge the battery.
I have tried starting my logan today evening and it was just doing grrrr-khaachhhhh grrr-khaach. and all the indicators were flashing for a second. I had to dhakka start it and then it got started. I had to keep it running for 10 minutes and then I had a drive of 15 minutes.
What is the maximum time the car can be remain idle without start which will not hamper battery and other parts.?
As I may have to go out again for 10-15 days. And I am going to Panipat so I can not take it.
need advice on this. Today I was a bit sad when this had happened. IF he could have started for some time........
cheers

If its difficult to start the engine during ur absence, then the best thing I would suggest is to pull out the cables from the battery when u r not present. This is something what the service center adviced, bcz I also sometimes has to go out of station frequently.

Vyenky, did you park on an incline i,e the front facing up? What was the status of the fuel? I somehow don't feel its the battery problem unless somebody has been in the car listening to music for long hours or having some lights on while the engine was not running. How many kilometers has the vehicle covered so far? Do you use it often?

I travel a lot, at the max I have not started the car for two consecutive months, still the car started without any trouble. Car is 1 year old, about 7500+ KMS done.

will agree with nayandeep, best is to unplug the cables from the battery and leave it idle, it won't drain , once ur back hook the cables up and it will start in one shot, leaving the cables plugged in to the battery would have caused the drain

Guys, disconnecting the battery for an extended period of time causes an ECU reset on some cars (I haven't tried it on my logan yet). So you might actually have trouble starting the car again later - and it may have a rough idle and not drive ok for about 10-15 min until the ECU re-learns.

Has anyone noticed any such thing ? Also, please don't let disconnect the battery when the engine is running. That can fry your voltage regulator (alternator) and damage the ECU.

saumil - did not want to alarm anyone - disconnecting the battery when the engine is running is UNSAFE.

If you disconnect it with the engine off (for any reason) its SAFE(won't harm the ECU). But expect some changes in the way the engine runs for the next 5-10 minutes after you re-connect the battery. The engine will run normally after that.

i have kept the car idle for upto 20days .. no problems.. do get your battery checked.. if it is going grrr kaaaatch (nice one) it probably isnt the battery anyway.. just a simple case of fuel supply ... i would urge you not to use the accelerator at all while starting the car...

Can anyone give me an idea about how long the battery can last if I leave the headlights ON with the ignition OFF... by mistake of course..

And also how long it takes to full charge a battery if it is completely drained..

I would say a 12 hour mains charge would charge it or a two hour drive in the car if you can start it
Why would you leave the lights on ??? It has a warning tone so you should not be able to do it

Of course the warning tone is there. I had done it once when I had learnt driving. So now wife also did the same thing. I had another problem in the car with the coolant (I have posted this in a new thread). SO I am just trying to figure out whether a battery can drain in 4-5 hours if the headlights are left ON..

two hour drive to full charge the car battery.. Ok..Thanks for this info..
