| Since the last 2 days I am getting a rattling noise as I increase the rpm in 3rd gear. However everything is normal for the other gears. Also this sound is intermittent and is coming up only after driving for some 1 hour or so. I changed the timing belt about 6 months back | |

| Well, just got a call from the service center, they have changed both the timing belt and water pump and done the service. Bill is very expensive 19k. The lady said cost of timing belt and water pump itself is over 9 k. Plus other stuff and taxes. Plus the servicing in which the changed the engine oil, filters etc. would come up to 6k. Will go to collect the vehicle today and update once i get the bills. | |

| Hi Dushie,
Service costs have gone up. Last time I went there to get an old issue fixed, I had to take the entire service center to task and scream at them to get the job done. They seem very content with the Logan / Verito taxis that come and fetch them business.
Anyway coming back to the issue, they charged me Rs.17 for insulation tape in the bill while they would have hardly used about 10 inches of the tape (thats the price of a full roll). My dad who was with me that day, demanded the remaining tape be handed over to him. They had no answer to give but to handover the tape. Daylight robbery I would say. Please post a copy of the bill here if possible.
I have a lot of rant against the service quality which I am planning to put up on a new thread.

| Only timing belt cost is around 5k + labour + tax. For 12k you can change both the timing belt and water pump along with labor cost. My old timing belt and water pump is still in a very good condition. Will post pics later. | |

| I didnt update the further Story, after the Road side assistance to fix the Accessory Belt, whithin a month I noticed the replaced belt is again getting teared at the corner, This time I was furious on the Service advisor and the Manager, had to leave the car again to service center and later understood there a minor run out on the pulley which is leading to this damage, now after 6 months and 10K Km the belt is running in good condition & I did not pay any money for the belt replacement as it was under 6 months spare parts warranty. but had to leave the vehicle for 3 days at the service station " /> | |

| Thats the way to go Mate !!! do the maths ! you look after your Logan and She will look after you ! its better to spend a bit of money and get the work done than spend even more on repairing the damage caused by not doing so ! Mine has just got back from a Grueling Trans Europa tour from Germany to South Spain it is 7 years Old and I got for the 5000 km we drove a return of 6,9 ltrs per 100 km or 14.49 KML Its only a small engine the 1400 cc unit but has enough power to sit on the motorway at 135kmh for 1100 km like i did on the first day ! Simply Red In Spain! ahhhh yes and No AC in my car ! | |

| The cost of timing belt and water pump comes up to 10K, post this there are labor charges and tax. I got mine changed couple of months back. Also i would recommend to get the water pump changed when you are changing the timing belt. As if the water pump starts leaking you would have a major problem in your hands. Also the old water pump would get hard with time and it would put additional pressure on the new belt to rotate the same. So if you only change the belt and not the old water pump, the life of the changed belt would shorten due to the effort required to work the old pump.
Better to change both together and have a peace of mind. I still have my old water pump and timing belt lying with me and both look good.

| Hi, MY service guy recommended a change of Timing Belt when I went in for Servicing of my Logan(2008 1.4GLX) saying that it has to be replaced after 5 years OR 60000 Kms, WHICHEVER is earlier. Mine had done 54000 Kms when I gave it for servicing last week (at Bangalore). Charges: TIMING BELT W/Tensioner - Petrol - Rs. 2937.12 60000Kms Service & Labour - Rs. 2280.00 -Timing belt replacement Labour charges incl.
Said that accessories belt was fine and did not need to be replaced for another 5000-7000 Kms.
I had been thinking of changing my Car but as Thomasmathew says Ride Quality and comfort is excellent and also it gives me 14-15 Kms on highway and around 10-11 Kms in city so am keeping it!

| The reason for having the water pump changed when the timing belt is changed is because its cheap and if you do not change it and it goes (which it will sometime or other) you have the same BIG job as changing a timing belt ! Think about it | |

| You have misunderstood me ! To change the belt you work right next to the water pump so it stands to reason to replace the Pump at the same time it does not cost a lot of money and they do tend to go after about 100000 km and if it does go IE leak you need to have exactly the same work done as changing the timing belt ! It is a big job . The Pump will not damage anything on the motor But if it starts to go it will effect the whole cooling system and with you living in a place like India you want the best cooling system possible My advise to you is you will be needing a new belt again at 160 thousand so keep checking your water for leaks around the pump but make sure you get the pump changed next time ! you can see if the pump is leaking by looking for "WHITE" marks around it | |
