My logan filled with water during heavy rains

Hi all
wanted to update and inform all the members a painful issue i faced couple of weeks back -

One evening after entering the car i found water filled inside the cabin, the paper sheets which they put after service were wet , the mat was wet and water was floating inside. I was shocked and had no words. This was just one week after the paid service which i had spent more than 5k.

I called the service center and took the car there the next day.

They checked and found the vents to drain out water below the plastic grille, were blocked and choked due to which water entered inside from the ac vents due to heavy rains.

i had a lengthy discussion that they should have checked the same during service but, the service center people refused to help and said they will charge to fix the problem.

Worse part was that they were aware of the issue and said that they will not advise to park the vehicle under a tree as this may happen. They even went on to tell that this was a common issue which has happened earlier with other logan's and scorpios.

Also at that time they used to charge 5 k, to remove the carpets, dashboard and follow all the steps as mentioned by the guide book.

After lot of heavy words and heated discussion they finally agreed to fix the same for Rs 1200 + taxes.

They took 3 hours to remove the entire carpets and gave the vehicle back to me after cleaning the water draining vents.

I went back after a week, once the carpets were dry to get them fixed again. the entire process took couple of hours.

Damages for the entire fiasco was -

Floor mat fitting charges Rs 1200
taxes Rs 123.60

Total Bill - Rs1324

Best part after taking the car back, i started facing issue with the handbrake light glowing intermittently, within a few days it used to lit whenever i used to break, and then it became permanently on.

I took the vehicle back they said it is a switch issue, they took over an hour fixed the problem and i got my vehicle back, as of now its working fine without any issues.

My first paid servicing and this issue made me travel to the service center 3 times week on week in a single month.

Just wanted to share the experience with other users. please ensure that you keep the water draining vents cleaned to avoid water blocking , if needed u can inform them during regular service to clean the water drainage vents.

Similar thing happend with me as well. 2 weeks back when delhi recorded highest rains, i forgot to roll the window up completely. After the rain stopped, i realised this and opened the door with crossed fingers. However, to my surprise, there was barely any water inside. It wasnt even moist in there...Sigh of relief....

BTW, which water drainage vents are you referring to??? Can you please specify, I ll check.

Where did you park your car? was it a fat road or a slightly baked/inclined road?
Was there any gush/stream or flooding of sort of the rain water?

I've probably posted this info earlier but am unable to trace it. Posting again.


I faced this problem last year when Id parked my car on Vittal mallya road.
In my case the culprit was not water entering from any of the channels or due to being under trees.

Here, the road got flooded for about 2 hours and water flowed just 2 inches below my chassis and floor.

Due to the flow, water had entered the cabin through the vent/drain holes on the floor and in no time, the carpet had absorbed all the water it could get, till it got saturated.

It was all squishy and stinky when i got inside

However, 2 days later i sent the car for service and the drycleaned the carpet and returned it bakc. FREE of cost.

Though the smell remained for about a week, it was all ok in the end. From then on, I've decided to park my car in places where water cannot stay and will flow away.

Which vents you are referring to.. can you pl specify...My parking is below trees and i can see the leaves all around in my car..So pl guide us with the details.

These vents are below the plastic grille inside the bonnet on both the sides.
There are 2 holes,one in each corner in which water goes inside and gets drained to the bottom, these holes got blocked due to dead leaves, muck, broken bits of wood and other stuff over last 220 odd months.

I will try to post a picture of the plastic grille. i found a pic online and have marked the grille and the 2 vents, the drainage holes are inside on both the sides you need to remove the plastic grille to access the same.

How many times have I told you guys on this forum about my Stocking over the vent idea ? It makes a great filter and costs nothing (well one of your wifes short nylon socks ) have a look at the photo and I recomend you all do this

Yep, Stu i agree with you on the same, it is a brilliant idea and can save lot of hardship and money

What I have done is to simply wrap the black plastic grill which Stu is referring to, with kitchen Plastic Wrap. Zero odor, zero bugs/leaves. Cut away that little bit where you need to fill wiper washer liquid. And zero cost!

But are you not losing out on the ventilation part??

That could be Dangerous!
The Grill is to let in Air! Ventilation is very important! Stu Used Stockings as they are very porous and allow a lot of air to pass through! Plastic could spell disaster!

How can you wrap plastic on area which is meant to circulate air flow. As the name suggests it is ventilator.

We all must not experiment different things as i do not think there is any need to do so.

I still wonder what is the connection of the grill getting blocked and water getting filled inside cabin. i mean if the water is pouring only from outside and cabin is closed, why would grills being blocked cause water enter cabin. i am concerned because i do park in open and there are some trees around. kindly clarify.

@Mir when below this filter filles upm with leaves then this room fills up with C02 and it will enter the car through the heater
under the car somewhere are outlets for the water .BUT if the leaves block it then it Rubber duck time in the back for the kids

I am still confused from where water entered in the cabin and what is the role of top vents in this?

What I guess is water was intering from underbody somewhere from water outlets or it intered from top vents?
