| OK,thanks stu...i will try that today only........but do i have to start the engine to see those stuff or turning the battery will do it??????
well yesterday, they filled the tank with 10 litres and i hope they had around 2 litres previously, so the fuel should be 12 litlres( two bars left), and the km shown on the DIS was around 290 kms, i think that's the km the car can travel with the existing fuel............well this is a guess so i will keep updating about the mileage once again within a week..................

| no, this is a diesel version and as i said the ride was a bit on the outskirts of the city, so i have to see how it shows when i travel completely within city.......
and moreover stuart told me to rely on the DIS after a month only, and i have to see the mileage with the process of tank-full/distance covered as well.........
thanks for appreciation anyway.....

| I've spolied my driving habits in the last 1.5 yrs of my Logans purchase. When I drive others' cars they plead me to show mercy on rough roads. So with type of driving everyday 50 kms and completing 17000 kms on the ODO, I am still getting 18 kmpl mileage in city. Highways is steady at 24-25 Worst case experienced was 17. Awesome!! | |

| Hi guys,
Just back from a longish drive in the Logan; Delhi-Amritsar-Chandigarh-Delhi. Accompanying were my wife and two teenaged sons. Thought let me share my experiences with you all. It also gave a good opportunity to test out the performance of the car, as also the FE.
Started off at about 0740h (wanted to start at 0700h; got a bit delayed). Topped up the car at the nearest Filling Station – upto first cut (if you know what I mean) and added another five litres. Aim was to fill up as much, fewer filling halts; I remember reading somewhere in this Forum that despite the OEM claiming tank capacity 50 litres, it can take about 55 litres.
By the time left Delhi limits, the DIS was showing an average speed of 28 kmph & 15.3 km/L – not bad at all. Must admit that early morning rush hour was yet to hit Delhi roads in all earnestness.
Driving on NH 1 along Sonepat – Panipat – Kurukshetra – Ambala is always a pleasure. And does the Logan behave well – a pleasure indeed. The steering is very responsive, the car feels solid, absolutely no handling issues, ample reserve power to overtake, can take off well when required. The speed limit on NH 1 is 90 kmph. Decided to generally stick to it. By and large drove consistently in 90-100 range (actually it is difficult to maintain a steady 90 kmph – with no cruise control – sorely missed one), under 3000 rpm; except maybe an odd time when one had to overtake! The DIS built up average speed to 59.7 kmph by the time I had crossed Ambala (about 200 km from Delhi); the FE creeping up steadily to 17.4 kmpl – not bad at all.
Beyond Ambala, I handed over the wheel to my son (19 ½ yrs – studying for his CPL in the US). Seeing 17.4, he said let me try and better that – was pleasantly surprised. Like any teenager his age and a trainee pilot at that, he is mostly trying to outdo Mike Schumaker, if not break the sound barrier (always a source of worry for all parents). I let him handle the car the way he wanted for the next 120 km or so and he had brought it upto 17.6 kmpl, average speed at 62.2 kmph. Eureka – the best figures are around 70-75 kmph range at about 2000 rpm; but at these speeds, you would be like a bullock cart on NH 1!
Crossing Ludhiana along the NH is a pain, by the time we left it behind, the average speed had dropped to 54 kmph and the FE to 16.8. The NH is four lane upto Jullunder (another 50-55 km or so if I remember correctly) and the FE was built up to 17. Beyond Jullunder it is about 80 km or so to Amritsar, a double lane under upgradation to a four lane; whole lot of diversions, changing of lanes, criss-crossing etc. We hit the outskirts of Amritsar with the FE down to 16.6. Taking the bypass to the Cantonment (where my brother is posted and our destination), we further encountered a similar state of the road.
Amritsar in any case is not a “driver friendly city”. Throw in a PM’s visit and it is a sure recipe for a driver’s nightmare. Police blockades, diversions, checks etc. By the time we reached my brother’s place, we were down to an average speed of 49.8 kmph and the DIS showed a FE of 15.8 kmpl!!!
Next day we started back after an early lunch. On our way back, looking for a refill at Jullunder, I found that we in Delhi are a pampered lot as regards FOL prices are concerned. The standard petrol in Punjab is at Rs 44 plus as against 40.62 in Delhi. My DIS told me I can hit Chandigarh (approx 130 km) with fuel on board, so pressed on. They have recently laid the Phagwara-Chandigarh road and it is a beauty. Maintaining a speed of 85-90, the DIS again built up the FE to 16.8, average speed to 56 kmph. Had to take a short halt at Ropar (about 40 km short of Chandigarh) to meet an old colleague who has since retired; like all good small towns in North India, it is crowded and not very heartening for my FE exercise!
Entering Chandigarh at 1900 h and driving through it to reach Panchkula (our destination for the night), is an exercise in itself. We filled up enroute (at Rs 40.51!!); I parked with the FE at 15.4 kmpl and the average speed at 49.6 kmph.
Must mention here that except for about 30 odd km when we started the trip from Delhi, we had ac on all along.
Next morning we woke up to an overcast sky, left Panchkula at about 0930 h. It started to rain as we were crossing Dera Bassi (no problems with the car on the wet road). I could maintain a steady 90 kmph or thereabouts. We drove without ac for about 100 kms, before the sun made its presence felt and we were kind of forced to go in for the ac. The drive was good, uneventful; one was generally demoralized with the way the FE was down from 17.6 kmpl; but yet contended the way the car was handling.
We entered Delhi at 16.1 kmpl and the average speed at 54 kmph. Delhi traffic at its best and that too through the Azadpur Sabzi Mandi area (the Metro work is on). The Metro is a wonder and a boon for Delhiites, but while it is under construction, it is a pain indeed (I guess that is why the saying goes – no gain without pain). Anyway, I reached back home by about 1415 h, with the DIS showing 15.8 kmpl and the average speed at 52.6 kmph.
15.8 kmpl for a car of this size on the highway, is not bad at all; in fact it is pretty good.
To check back the figures, I drove to the nearest Filling station (same procedure – first cut and 05 litres more). To my most pleasant surprise, I had used 60.19 litres of petrol for 1063 km at an average of 17.6 kmpl!!!!!
17.6 kmpl for a 1.6 petrol car is commendable! Hence I think expecting it to deliver in the range of 16-17 kmpl over a long distance drive would be a fair bargain.
Besides, my son learnt his lesson that a bit of conservative driving can actually yield such fantastic results.

| The upper mileage figures are fantastic... but we also see the mileage dropping in crowded city driving conditions. This also goes to show that those of us not getting these good numbers in tankfuls of bumper-to-bumber city commutes mostly in lower gears, where speeds average no more than 20-25kmph, should not get disheartened, as these figures are attainable only with long stretches of steady constant high speed driving in 5th gear. | |

but the first day, the same car with a.c. on gave me 19km/l, but that was mostly on the outskirts of the city..............

Earlier i was on below figures: 11.4 kmpl with A.C. in city WITH INDIAN OIL petrol (normal unleaded).
Now i am on below figures: 12.8 kmpl with A.C. in city WITH HP petrol (normal unleaded). also i expect 12.8 to shoot upwards.
Does this make sense to anyone as in, can petrol from Indian Oil or HP cause difference on one's kmpl figures?

| Road driving conditions play a big role in the fuel efficiency you can get ... 11.4 to 12.8 is not that much of a difference. This should be tracked over several tankfuls to bet a better averaged picture from both brands. Also there may be a slight difference in the amount of fuel the two pumps are delivering. | |
