Vertio 2011 - Hard steering Issues - Need advice

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.

I purchased a 2011, Nov Mahindra Verito D4 and I have covered 14000 Kms so far. There are couple of issues with the car I need your advice on:

Steering - I find it very hard to turn; almost feels like manual. My wrist hurts. In my 10k service, I had mentioned this to Sirish Auto in Bangalore and they topped the power steering fluid and said the job is "done". Well, I don't see any difference, still find it hard.

Any suggestions please?

Power - Find it inadequate....Has anyone on this forum used a Pete tuning box or got a remap done? Want to hear from you before getting them.

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes. The steering of the Logan/Verito is hard when compared to other cars.
unfortunately, this is something you have to live with. It wont get any lighter than what it is now.

On a positive note, this is a boon on highway drives where the steering feels weighted and more responsive to handle.

Regarding the power, I wouldn't say that its great, but is adequate.
You may get used to it as you drive along. it gradually grows on you.

Pete's have a kit for the Logan. But installing it will mean
- voiding your warranty
- remapping engine ECU (service guys are likely to change it back to stock condition when it goes for a service)

We have to live with the hard steering and the hard clutch for the old Logans:( . Heard this got better in the new Veritos.

Change the front tyre .The OE tyre is not up to the mark. I had changed my 4 tyres with good year assurance now the total dynamics including the steering is very smooth . It is my personal experience.Mileage also increased.

If you go for tyres only try international brands like michelin , bridgestone , good year .

best said by the vsuprak... may feel a bit hard in city drive but it is a boon on long drives on highways. another thing i would like to add is that the power steering is hydraulic as compared to electronic in most of the cars these days.

if the strut mount bearing have rust , it may make the well weighted steering feel harder. you can have these checked and replaced if needed. cost is 600 or something per for the original renault ones. this does help. I had got the mahindra packing renault ones for rs.490/ each a couple of months baCK.
  Last i enquired at global gallerie , they were couple of hundred more.

Also make sure your tire pressure is not to Low

This is a problem which I noticed & questioned when I test drove but I was misinformed that its because that particular test car alignment was off. Hard steering issue is there in new verito also, I test drove it to be sure. Hard steering and Hard clutch seems to be inherent problems with Logan I was trying to change the steering sensor. If the alignment is perfect and front tyres inflated to a little higher pressure (32PSI) the steering gets little light (I switched to Nitrogen). But seldom I feel the steering gets a lot lighter while parking.

 I had used nitrogen for sometime about a year. The riding comfort does improve but the tyres tends to wear out comparatively sooner. They say with nitrogen you don't have to top up for about 3-4months. But mine never lasted and required frequent tops up. Hence dropped the idea was tending to get costly.

Is it? I was into understanding that Nitrogen improves tire mileage! because nitrogen being an inert gas doesn't react to temperature fluctuations thus tire pressure remains stable even while driving longer distances tats why frequent top is not required. Nowadays free nitrogen is available in fuel stations but the ride gets harder unlike atmospheric air which compresses better on impacts providing softer cushioning effect.

I never got any improvement in fuel average, it was the same. When you use nitrogen you shouldn't be filling it to the same PSI as normal air. It should be 1 or 2 PSI lesser. As the ride as you say will be very bumpy. Keep a lookout for the tyre wear as mine was getting worn-out comparatively faster.
