| Update on my mileage: was getting a pathetic 7.5 to 8.5 last month. Glad to now report 14.25 kmpl [7L/100km] ... ODOMETER on 3300km. This is purely innercity driving with AC 90% of the time. Its mostly a change in driving style ... have been able to save without compromising TOO MUCH on. If petrol prices weren't rising so fast I wouldn't have bothered, but I feel much better now! | |

| When I checked it last time it was 7-8kms/lit in city conditions. Much disappointed, so I gave for serving, the serving guy told me he has done all possible thing to improve it.
I was trying to calculate the mileage, but confused. After the service I filled the tank, then ran up to 198 kms, with no AC. Following your suggestions never crossed 2000 RPM. Then again refilled the tank, that fuel pump dint have auto cut off, so that guy filled 17.46 Lits. So only 11 Kms without AC? Am I missing something?
Also used the used this approach
Switch OFF engine 2. Press the CLOCK/TRIP button 3. Keeping button pressed, turn ignition key to turn on Instrument Panel 4. Keep the button pressed till you enter diagnostic mode (Tacho and Speedo will move in steps) 5. Press CLOCK/TRIP button for display check (all LCD segments will display)
It showed 49Lts. I thought 45 is the tank capacity.
Model 1.4 GLX KMS travelled so far 6700 Am using the xtra mileage petrol

| FIRST find a proper petrol pump with an automatic fuel cutoff
SECOND Get your tank filled at the SAME pump machine next time to get the Cut-off at the same point every time
THIRD this is the suggestion from my Workshop expert who drove my car and got 11.3kmpl *Change from 1st to second gear almost immediately (after moving 10 to 15feet) *2nd to 3rd when rpm touches 1600 to 1700rpm - accelerate gently *3rd to 4th again when rpm touches 1600 to 1700rpm -accelerate gently *get into 5th gear as soon as you hit 40 - 45kmph speed * keep accelerator pressed to hold at 1700rpm - you can occasionally touch UPTO 2000rpm but get back to 1600 - 1700rpm quickly and maintain speed of 60kmph
As little braking as possible, anticipate traffic ahead. Get into neutral - dont stay in gear with clutch while stopped
All this may not seem exciting, but on a daily commute we don't need the thrills of revving the engine.
A more advanced technique is to stay in the HIGHEST possible gear for the traffic condition you are in, pulsing the accelerator gently which is idling (800 to 1000rpm) to keep up with the car in front of you.
FOURTH Record all Date/Odometer/Fuel as often as possible
I am yet to try this in highway driving, but I have been able to really reduce petrol consumption in my day to day commuting
(Tank capacity is MORE than 50L more likely to be 56L - 58L)
Stu: You are probably getting better mileage (highway) even while pushing the rpm up to 2000 - 3000, we are trying to maximize mileage in bumper to bumper traffic in extreme heat conditions (full AC on), where traffic crawls at mo more than 50 - 60kmph at best

| These seems to be driving under some test conditions, dosent sound like a normal driving. It will be very very hard to follow this, need to go atleast in 70-80 if not more. If we go to 5th gear when we are 45, will not harm the engine? Mine is city driving but mostly not bumper to bumper mostly, a free road with some signals and few breaks Are you able to follow this? | |

| Hey Prakash The Idea is to go to the highest possible gear at the earliest, and it wont damage teh engine if u move to the 5th gear at 1600 to 1700rpm.. Its known that you may have to pump the acclerator and cant keep going at 60 but still make sure its in the 5th gear by then... | |

| Prakash, you may need to go at a higher speed than 60kmph, take it to 70 - 80kmph at max of 2000rpm, but note, you will get lesser mileage than if you maintain at 60kmph ... it is a tradeoff between performance and economy, you will have to decide this.
I have CONSCIOUSLY CHANGED my driving method ... earlier I used to probably drive like how you do right now ... but that would get me the 7.5 8 kmpl mileage. I have been doing this for the last two tankfuls of petrol and have been glad to see the dramatic reduction in my fuel consumption.
So the choice is yours ... performance or fuel economy !

But Logan seems to be a not a fuel efficient car under normal drive conditionsL Also has any one confirmed that fuel available, displayed in diagnostic mode is correct?

| I have a fuel consumption of 7,3 liters per 100km I drive pretty fast on country roads at least 100kmh And Autobahn I must at least hit 140 or the trucks will be pushing me It is in the towns were I let the car ROLL by getting in the highest gear and just FEATHERING the accelerator pedal and then when I leave the town I do a block change I always change at 2000rpm up or down UNLESS I want to get away a lot faster then I will wind her up to around 4000rpm and also dont forget to give it a good blast down the highway every once in a while !!!It blows the cobwebs out Stu A Block change is going from 5th gear to 3rd (but dont do this at high speeds 40kmh is great) | |

| Prakash ...
Service Workstation expert quoted a figure of 10kmpl to attain as what you can get reasonably ... my 13kmpl was an exercise in testing my ability to drive better than that average ... on days when traffic conditions are exceptionally bad, any car's mileage WILL be affected. These are things to keep in mind whenever you drive and conditions permit ... who doesn't want to save fuel. But occasionally you do have to step hard on the pedal or drive in a less than optimal manner.
As I was saying - it is a mind-shift - what you are calling test condition driving, I am trying to make it my NORMAL mode of driving.

| Filled my tank but put the Instrument panel into Diagnostic mode first then opened my fuel tank cap .... What I could see as tank was filling
FUEL INDICATOR [] 48L and more [] 44L [] 40 [] 35 [] 30 [] 25 [] 20 [] 15 [] 10 LO 5L
May be someone else should do this to see if they are getting the same reading ...
(This is NOT by looking at the pump meter but the digital readout on the dashboard and the fuel bars on the left )
Someone should also try to capture (probably on Video) ALL THREE readings together ie Dashboard readings and the pump reading

Is it a problem with Indian cars.
Hi, experts I like to speak to one of you, especially if someone Hyderabad. Because I even feel even the pick is also very very low, especially with AC on. Just wanted to confirm is it my perception or problem with my car.

| If in Germany you are on the autobahn you travel at 120 to 140 (or as fast as you want)ther roads are good and the other drivers are also driving good .You can hold your speeds and also you get a good fuel consumption at and arround 120 kmh .My 7,3 ltrs are a mixture of Autobahn and b roads as I dont drive on the Autobahn all the time But 7,3 to 7,5 LITRES PER 100 KMS IS NORMAL dont forget if you drive to slow you will use more fuel you need to keep your cars momentum 60 kmh is to slow for this car 80 kmh is great try it out Stu | |

| I spoke to Saumil, he suggested to check with one of the localite and said the pick should be good. But I have totally a different experience, with AC on, the car doesn’t climb even a slightly inclined road, even my friend who is driving swift asked if it is a diesel car. It may be my perception or driving style too. Is there any one from Hyderabad, part of this forum? One more small clarification, my car 1.4 car crosses 2000+ rpm if I go on 80/KPM, but I have noticed diesel cars cross 80/KPM within 2000 rpm. Is this a normal behavior? | |

As i told u that it may be your driving style or may even be a problem with the car but i find it highly unlikely. As i said catch hold of someone who has a Petrol Logan in Hyderabad and check with him cause he would be in a better position to gauge the difference if any.

| Guys, I m having this problem now, my logan isnt givin me good mileage. Dunno wats wrong. When i fill premium diesel, i can do a max of 520 odd kms in a fill of about 45 lts... With normal diesel, it does about 620 or so barely. I am very irritated. I went to Milestone, Mumbai for the same. They told me to undergo a Mileage test. Idiots made me pay 250 for the test . Sadly, even they got a dissappointing 10-11 KMPL. Have to go back to them on monday probably cause the Head of Service is on training... Lesse. | |

Have you been keeping a record of the mileage you have been getting with each tank fill? Then you could see if there has been a change in the fuel efficiency.
