Fender Damage - Whether to claim insurance or not

Hi freinds,

while taking a reverse, I forgot there is electric pole and I was busy checking the back of the vehicle and it band on the right fender.
I went to showroom silver Jubilee motors in Pune. they have given me a estimate of ~ Rs6000
Removing the Dent - Rs 1500
Painting of fender - Rs 2200
Front Bumper refitting & scratch touch up - Rs 455
6 Hex bolts & 1 GLX sticker - Rs. 45
-----------------------------------------------
Total - Rs 4200
Taxes - 525
net amount - 4725
------------------------------------------------
If I go for a absolutely new fender instead of dent removal - it will cost additional Rs 1000.
Freinds I need suggestion, whether I go for a insurance claim or repair at my expense and get advantage of the no claim bonus in the premium renewal

It's all a gamble.. you have another 9 months to go before you can actually use your NCB for renewal.

So even if the calculation shows not claiming insurance would be cheaper, it might not really work out in the end.

I did something like this (did not take insurance). And just some 3 weeks before 1 year was up, I had to get the bumper, headlight changed and fender redone. Too costly without insurance. And I lost my NCB.

The NCB is really not all that much...

With that damage I would use the insurence its only 3 months old so you can make sure they do a TOP job on it

You will know your own driving skill levels better. So, based on this fact, it would depend on whether this accident was a one off fluke that is not to be repeated.

Then by all means repair cheaply and LOCALLY and not at the workshop,and the NCB would come in handy after 9 more months of accident free driving.

I paid Rs. 7000 to my local garage who did a superb job of repairng and repainting all 4 panels on either side as well as the front and rear bumpers.

Also this quote by the workshop seems high as only ONE panel is involved. The Logan workshop did one job for me where all 4 panels on one side were repaired and the headlight was replaced. That bill was Rs18000 (under insurane of course). so 6000 seems a little high...

Try and get this done at the authorized service center itself and don't claim insurance. No need to go in for a new panel.

This anyway was a very freak accident.

It was a very basic mistake I did while taking a reverse, Its difficult to imagine and a bit weird how this damage happened.

generally the vehicle speed is very low while taking a reverse.
It only 2200 KM & my logan Idling is very high, once I release the throttle, It just runs.

I have just an image to illustrate how the accident took place.

I think I will go with the insurance.

insurance is meant to take advantage of.

while one does need to plan for future, but then this is a 5 to 7k expense. let the insurance provide you relief.

Oh my God... Thats a real heartbreaking comment.
I'm planning to take the vehicle from Pune to Banglore. (800 KM one way, )with that kind of "Housewife" remark I will seriously think twice before deciding on this journey.

Anyway guys, all said and done, I have dropped my vehicle at service center and filled up the insurance form.
survey etc. will take a day and repair 1-2 days.

The service center guy gave me a correct estimate this time, ~ Rs. 3600

My No claim Bonus (NCB) is Rs 2500
I will end up paying Rs. 1000 for claim charges. and lose the NCB.
Hence total loss is Rs 3500.

I'm claiming the same amount for this freak accident. and nine months of insurance left.

Considering the driving conditions in Indian cities, it is always better to go with the insurance. Even if you are driving carefully and properly, you can never be sure of the other cars on the road. Once my car got hit by a taxi from the back while I was standing at a signal:). So you need to be really lucky to avail the NCB.

The workmanship of the denting and touch up job is excellant.
I cant even make out there was any damage, I will post the photos later.

Total expenses were Rs. 4050, Painting was the most expensive Rs 2200.
Now I have to follow up with the Insurance guys for the claim cheque.

Greasing ?????
