I specifically asked him about the spark plugs at 20000 KM. He showed a chart that was there at the workshop showing that it only needs to be changed at 40000 KM. The manual does say 20000KM though. I will have to verify when I go there next. I guess with spark plugs, the service interval doesn't matter. If it does have to be changed at 20k, I suggest you take it back to them when your car has done around 20k.

| I had just sent my Logan for service at 20000, service manager said that the would check the brake shoes, and if necessary would change them. As I am a relatively "brakeless" driver - the brakeshoes did not need replacement! | |

| Ok Folks, My car came back from her 3rd service, Its a 2 part story, The Good and the Bad....I ll start with BAD...... Upon inspection i was informed that the brake pads and air filter will be CHECKED FIRST and only if NEEDED, will be replaced.. However, once they started they decided to change them none the less...I intervened and inspected myself and found out that the Brake pads were like New...Very thick...the air filter was also in a good shape but the mechinic tored it Senior supervisior told me Engine oil, air filter, oil filter alone wud cost me 1700.... ..Did freak me out.... The Good..... Then appeared the GM Service, Who was doing routine rounds.....I spoke with him for 10 min.....And then.....Everything changed.... Apologizes started flowing profusely...... Pricelist was rechecked and now those parts were for 955 ... Coffee/Softdrinks were served every 15 min....which i politely refused... A chair in the workshop was offered where my car was get serviced..how cool is that.... ........ The mechanic doing my car was instructed to replace/repair anything i d ask.....without any questions....He did just that...... They went on and gave me a another 5% discount....dunno why... Also they gifted a T-shirt.....said i am an inportant customer to them.... Since the car had only done 14000kms, they didnt change the spark plugs, but asked me to get the car when its done 20000 and they ll do it without any labor charges.....BTW.....Spark plug set was for 1100, now it is for 250.... ...... My Clutch was hard as hell, so i asked them to check that...the cable was replaced then since then........OMG......its light as melting butter in my mouth....like i am swimming in a pond of cream.....Amazing......... Brake pads were cleaned and after the bite has come back... Entire service costed me....1959Rs, including: Engine Oil.....513rs Oil Filter....... 88rs Air Filter.......354rs Tank Addi.....410rs Car Lube......360rs Taxes..........233rs All in All, It was a good experience and since the clutch and brakes have been sorted out......I am back in the game.....Fallen all over again with my baby.... | Now it sounds good. The brake pads needs to to cleaned, I generally do the same after every 5000 Kms. Some black dust gets accumulated in the inner surface of the wheel cap if the brake pads are not clean. You can use the same as a check.
Regarding the spark plug, the service center guy has told me to get it changed after 20,000 Kms. I have changed the same during my 3rd service. The cost was around Rs 1100/ .I will have to do the same again at the time of 5th service.

In our company a lot of my colleagues are going for company car's and we have a tie-up with some firm for that. They are responsible for providing cost, getting test drives and other details from vendors. Their representative had visited to office and was making a case for Ford Ikon diesel. He offered the spare part comparison and other details.I just got it from him and posted it there, as i was looking out for the same for some time now. Hope it helps our members to get a clearer picture ... Also someone at Mahindra should wake up ...

Spark plug change is only at 40K kms. I asked on the official Mahindra Renault wall on facebook. My Question: When do we need to change the spark plugs on a 1.6 GLSx? When I took it in for my third service, my service advisor told me I don't have to worry about it till 40000km. But the manual says 20000km and service advisors at other dealerships (other cities) seem to think it is 20000km. I specifically asked my service advisor about the 20000KM mentioned in the manual and he still said it is only 40000km. My Logan has done around 19000km so I need to know if I have to change the plugs after another 1000km. Their Answer: Dear Deepak - it should be 40K kms or 24 Mnths whichever is earlier. So, there is no need to spend for spark plugs so early..

| They don't replace brake pads during the 10000kms service. With regard to spark plug replacement go with what is mentioned in the service manual or get a written confirmation about the 'change' intervals. | |

| Hi,
Some good news finally from the spare parts section. A set of spark plugs, which used to cost around Rs 1050/- earlier will cost only Rs 240/- from now on. This has been confirmed to me by the service center guys. Also checked on the new side mirrors for Logan. The service center guys told me that these mirrors can be replaced in our cars having th older mirror types and the cost of the new mirrors will be less than the older ones. However, they have not yet received the stocks for the same, so they are unable to confirm the exact price.

| Hi, I got my first paid serivce of my logan (1.5 DLX) and here is the break up of the bill. This is my first car. I have couple of basic questions. I did asked the same question in the service center but didn;t get satisfactory response: --Here is the bill summary-- KMs run: 17341 1.5 year old Model : 1.5 DLX Logan engine oil (013L) : 619.55 Filter Oil : 332.44 Cartridge Filter : 354.67 Diesel fuel filter: 1191.11 Brake pad: 1468.44 Paid service 1000.00 Breake cleaning: 600.00 Questions: 1. Is replacing the break pad necessary at 17K? (serivce guy told me that usually we need to replace the break pads around 15K -17K) 2. Do we need to replace the diesel fuel filter at every service (once in 6 month)? The diesel fuel filter price posted in one of the old threads show less price. is this fuel filter price increased recently? 3. Once break pad is being replaced, do they need to do the breake cleaning also? what they do in the break cleaning? Appericate your response for the above questions. Thanks, Anil | |

Did you complain about breaking performance? If you did, instead of cleaning the pads they just replace them. This is a well known swindling technique. I have no idea why you have to clean new pads. Have they given the old pads back to you? If so, check if it really needed replacing. I'm hearing of quite a few servicing issues cropping up with the first paid service. I intend to stay at the workshop and see what those guys do for my first paid service.

| Pads have NO need to be cleaned !!!! Like rdr says this sounds like a swindle but I am sorry to say it sounds like that in India there are a lot of people open to swindels be it Oil or brake pads Just let the servicing garages do what the service book says and it does not say 17000 km new brakes .......follow the service guide GUYs and use the oil they say change the plugs when they say and I bet you will have your car for a LONG time //////////////Wow this is getting interesting I wish I was younger then I would open a Garage in India and offer a fair deal to you guys and you could all take me out for a good Curry after I have not ripped you off at the counter Merry Christmas Friends ................and to those that also dont class me as a friend as always I hope I have not offended anyone with my answer | |

| i do not believe in trying my hands onto such stuffs. for example 1. on petrol Logan service center confirmed that spark plugs need to be replaced only at 40k kms and never before that. 2. i also posted my conversation on oil in the other oil thread. 3. i always drive with AC on all the times and have done 11500 kms. Confirmed with service center that no AC cleaning or Air Filter cleaning / replacing activity is needed. Also the AC is working perfectly like day one. still we have threads on KN Filter systems on this forum. but each individual has his own choice and area if interest. people like experimenting. | |

| Hi,
The wear and tear of brake pads depends on the driving pattern and the driving conditions. I have changed the brake pads at 33K Kms. Parts which are subjected to wear and tear has to be changed on need basis. I don't think the service manual will specify when to change these parts.
As far as my knowledge goes, the OEM parts provided in a car also has a price factor associated with it.In addition to the same . It will be of decent quality and provide good performance but then again, the consideration of price comes into play as this affects the overall price of the car.
Performance products are normally used in car get better performance as compared to the similar stock model. However, the products being used require a lot of R & D prior to use in order to ensure compatibility e.g. I have changed the head lamps with a similar product of same specifications, the only difference being the filament. As a result, the light has become much better as compared to the OEM lamp and at the same time it doesn't voids the warranty as the power rating is same as the OEM lamp and can be fitted in to the same socket without slightest modifications. The same goes in the case of engine oil.
However, as mentioned earlier, all these are personal choice. But, performance products, if used judiciously, will not harm the car any anyway, and will ensure better performance, better service and better life.
Regards, Kaustuv | |
