Mahindra Renault plans two new launches this year

Guys,

Got hold of this news, apparenlty given out by some Renault-India executive.
Though I myself havent heard of anything on these lines in the news recently, was surprised when i heard that 2 new models will be here this year

NEW DELHI: French car maker Renault is looking to introduce up to two new models in India with its partner Mahindra & Mahindra this year,
although it has indefinitely postponed plans to launch products from its Chennai facility.
"Our Nashik facility (capacity) is under-utilised. We are actively looking at introducing one or two new models from the plant in this year in order to have better utilisation of the capacity," a Renault India spokesperson told media.
Renault's joint venture with M&M, Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd, currently makes the Logan at the Nashik plant, which has an installed capacity of 50,000 units per year annum. It had produced 14,404 units in 2008-09 compared to 26,653 units in the previous fiscal due to fall in domestic car demand.
"We want to fully utilise the capacity," the official said, but declined to give details of the forthcoming launches.
Besides, the domestic market, the cars would also be exported to neighbouring countries, he added.
Renault had indefinitely put on hold introducing its cars in the Indian market from its upcoming Chennai plant on account of global slowdown, which has affected the firm's worldwide operations.
Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd was initially looking to introduce a seven-seater multi-utility vehicle from Renault's global portfolio, but was scrapped after getting negative feedback in a market study.
Besides the joint venture, Renault India had last year announced plans to invest Rs 4,500 crore over a period of seven years to produce four lakh cars annually from a car plant in Chennai in alliance with Japanese firm Nissan.
Renault had earlier planned to have four platforms to manufacture its vehicles and launch them by 2010, along with one or two imported models under completely built unit (CBU).

guys, all this is fine and good news.
but i strongly believe renault french car maker is more interested in using nashik for their exports and is least concerned with any movements happening within India.
i also think they are not able to digest some facts that renault is not being seen as a prominent car maker in india which is becoming evident.
i dont see them coming down to convince indian consumers on their actual positions.
they might be of perspective that renault brand name should be sufficient for selling into india.

I only see it as a measure to recover the investmenst made in Nashik.
Company doesnt seem to be too keen or bullish in capturing the market.

does this all suggest that there will no more be any takers for logan...

anybody here with an idea of re-sale value for logan? lets say a 3 yr old one.
however i dont think any body will actually need to sell it. but figures always help and keep one better informed.

the way i understand given the circumstances logan will fetch peanuts perhaps...

use their 2nd hand cars section and u'll get an idea. for my car (on road price of 6.75L) the current value is shown as 4.54L. i.e. Nov'07 purchase

hey guys,

was channel surfing today afternoon, came across a brief news item on NDTV Profit on a proposed launch from Maruti based on the "VERSA" platform, sometime later this year; with the aim to replace the old workhorse "OMNI".

it was the last line of the commentary which had me taking more keen note. It was something like this-- ".... this launch is being very keenly watched by Mahindra -Renault who are also planning to launch a MUV version of Logan this year...."

if this being true, well that's good news!

anyone any further inputs.

thats about Logan MCV - but I am doubt full about MCV as too many MUV's already captured the market and champion is Mahindra with its pickup tye vehicles.

Logan MCV has a very slim chance of making it here in India. My reasoning is 1- its an ugly looking car and, 2- None of the MCV's launched earlier by any manufacturer has ever worked here!

How do you work out that the LOGAN MCV is Ugly ? It looks a lot better than the Limosine and with 7 seats its a hell of a lot more family friendly and watch out Taxi firms if this comes over

i do not feel that any new model built on logan design (note that i am not talking about the base platform but only the design aspect) shall be launched.

however other models must be brought in which are very different from logan looks. as we have seen so far, logan looks can attract very small market segment which prefer buying such looks.

have a look at below pics of megane (hatchback, convertible, sedan), simply awsome. nothing stands with renault if only the right models are launched.

Yes mate but now print the price difference I know here they start at 18000 euros and go upto 28000 and for 28000 euros you can buy 4 Basic logans .So its realy a case of do I want to buy a dear car or a car I can afford .If its the latter then I would be looking at BMW

very true.
but i believe that both hatchback and sedan version of megane, can be launched cheaper than BMW in india, at around a range of say 1 million (approx 15,500 euros) for the sedan one and around 0.75 million (approx 11k euros) for the hatch back version.
convertible again is a costly affair and for a seperate segment all together. may be around 1.5 million could be a good price tag.

BMWs in india are costlier, starting with 3 million.

I am still not convinced about the confirmed launches of these products. Atleast in the immediate future.

Wait few more months and people will start beleiving that Renault is closing its focus on India.

as a matter of fact people have started believing that way since long now.
and yeah i am also not convinced about any new launch from them.

this is bad.. one and half years and my car is half the price i bought it for.. !!!

is this kind of pricing not true for any car.
i guess indian second hand car market does not offer too much to any seller.

keep marutis and the true value shop outta here. the resale factor and the ease with which one can sell his maruti off is something very different tale that resides only with marutis.

correct. this is exactly the case. all cars when it comes to resale are approx around same price which is far off downwards from their original first hand price.
this is true when you sell the car through a broker.
if you can find some buyer then you and the buyer both can be benefitted. however i am not sure on how good or fast this kind of sales model really works.
