The above experience has proved to be of great value. Am keeoing my brake pads for now.
just in case a single one wears out in the meantime.

No sounds or issues with the break pads as of now, but as suggested by Stu and seen in pictures of the break pads, guess i will get it checked up in case i find any issues or sounds, also i feel the cost of the break pads Rs 1800 is not much.
vsuprak - how much did the charge for labor or is it included in the Rs1800.

Yes i agree with you on the same, 2 years of driving and covering that much distance, the cost is negligible compared to safety, security of individual and maintenance of the vehicle.

My Logan has gone for its first paid service @ 30000 Kms. Most issues resolved like some lil door noise and electrical problem namely the brake and the left indicator issue. Now the problem is, the advisor calls me and says that while checking for the Brake noise problem i complained, BOTH the pads and the disc need replacement. I was shocked. He send me pictures showing me the damage since the service center is pretty far off. Now, i happen to know an advisor there personally, on querying with him, what he told me is that the Brake Pads need to be replaced @ about 20000 kms for the Logan here in Mumbai but since it was not done in your car, the pads have damaged the disc as well.

I can't make out what they are pointing at. Do you have shuddering while braking at high speeds? Disks have changed shape?

They are pointing out to the damage caused to the disc. I cant make out either.

i hv to go in for service ..... have done 39000 kms and will go at 40000

I have changed my brake pads only at 33K. The disc were not damaged. The driving condition at Kolkata and Mumbai are almost same. Also, from the photos attached, the brake disc doesn't seems to damaged to an extent that will require replacement. I would recommend that you get your car checked from another workshop and then go for the change. The chances of the brake disc getting damaged is remote.

I got mine replaced at 20000Kms.

Those Pads are not badly worn in fact they have another 10000 km on them and the disk is OK that ridge on the disk is normal it comes on all disks they are trying to take you to the cleaners mate
I am now at 54000 kms and they have not been changed yet
I go this month for my service so I expect to buy new Pads But not Disks

This is sad! The pads and the disks are replaced now. The bill comes to about 9000
Will update you guys. I had already given him a go ahead trusting the guy. He said the damage was there and SHOULD have been replaced. my bad!

You should not touch the disks. They should only be replaced once the thickness goes below a certain minimum (specified in the service manual) or if they are wrapped (brake pedal jumps and vibrates during braking).

There are no other reasons for replacing the disks - circumferential groves due to normal wear and tear are ok and don't cause any problems.

Examine the old disks? Can you ask them to describe what the exact problem was?

i've seen the pictures, those disc brakes were ok (their wear is normal), just brake pads must have been replaced.

Also here in Ro, some shops replaces you some good parts, if you don't know mecanics, to get some extra $ from you.

You know the saying: Don't trust anyone! (they only want your money)

i only went today for the service @ 40,000 kms

got brake pads changed.
costed 1652 + 360 for brake overhaul + 300 for something they did to disc plates.

supervisor was very hardly persuaing me to change the disc and gave me an estimate of 4840 for the same but a mechanic (known to me) told me that they are perfectly in shape and will go easily for next 40,000 kms

so got only pads changed

he even told me that they will not be responsible if the disc plates break down in middle of road
but after talking to the mechanic, it seems that they were only saying such things only to persue me

guys some days back i went to the service center to get my brake pads changed as i drove about 45,000 and one of my friend told me you need to change pads after 40,000 if you wont your discs will get wornd out, serive manager told they will cost me about 1700rs. i was not very happy with the price and service center was almost 200 meters away from the local market so i decided to go and conform there onse, on a shop i found pads from kbx it was written that manufactured by bosch india i conformed from the shopkeeper he said kbx is bosch indias product, they were costing only 650rs. and 100rs. labour total of 750rs almost 1000rs. less then the service center i called a friend or mine got the thing checkd on net he also said that kbx is a bosch product so got the pads changed the mechanic told me they could hav gone more 4 or 5 thousand kms(means i am a gud driver..:p) evryhthing went fine but i get a whistling noise wenever i brake its not that loud but it can be heard i conformed from a mechanic in the agency he said kbx pads work fine only some noise comes as they are little hard then the original pads..

They need to put a special Grease on the backs of the Pads !!! Its gold in color and stops the screaching

there is nothing like this available in here... i conformed... they just said brake pads are harder then the original onse so they will make sum noise no solution

IT IS THE ONLY WAY TO REPLACE PADS
If they do not use the Grease they are not doing a proper job
