To keep it or to Sell it!!!

Hi Folks,

I have been thinking long and hard and still have not been able to decide whether i should keep my logan or sell it.

It is GLE 1.4, Black, Petrol, done 66,000 kms and drives like a beauty. However, it has been plagued with following problems:

1. Wiper arm has been broken, can not be sourced alone, the whole assembly, along with the fitting and labour will cost 13,000-15,000 Rs.
2. I need to replace all the belts including the Timing belt, AC belt and a couple more. Which will cost around 12,000-14,000 Rs.
3. AC has been troubling me for some time now, gone worse. Upon pressing the AC button, the heater starts working. I am assuming the whole repair will take not less than 10,000 Rs.
4. Clutch system broke down. Costed me 14,000 Rs to get it fixed.

So i may end up shelling out 40,000 Rs. On the up side, I still get an average of 14.5 kmpl every time. And there are no niggles other than this what so ever. Really not sure what to do. Any suggestions are welcome!!!!

As much as a die hard fan I am of the Logan, given the current scenario on how M&M is dealing with the Verito, I' probably recommend you to let it go as they are sooner or later likely to kill the product themselves.

But then, which one would you opt for next? Car manufacturers are becomng daylight robbers either in sales or in service.

Think about it.

OMG vsuprak! Do you think M&M might do that. Verito seems to be moving good. They have made so many refinements that too for the good to it. I hear they are going to come out with a smaller version to verito like the Indgo-CS with smaller boot.

@adamkathy23: I think you should keep the vehicle. Its still good for another 100K Kms as far as i have seen in this forum. But if you are the type who likes to use a car and move ahead with newer markets upgrades then you are bound to feel it. Otherwise if you really are looking for a long term use even if you get a new one, none of the cars are 100% maintenance free, you are bound have the same in them too. As sophistication increases on a car the expense on the maintenance also increases. Diesel prices are going to come almost in par with petrol, i don't think there is any advantage in going for one now except for the mileage. But that is going to get reciprocated in the increased price of the car and maintenance. If you really like the ride you are using now then i think you should stick with it.

And as vsuprak has rightly put it buying and maintaining a car here is almost similar building a house. You have to be on the look out always for pick-pockets.

I do not doubt the car. But I know that the service guys will wreck it sooner or later even if it is doing fine. Mahindra is selling an average of 1600 units a month. Thats a little less than decent I would say.

They know their forte is UV's. SO even with the Logan hatchback coming, I doubt how many of today's people will want to spend their money on a less stylish car.

My thinking says they wont go much far with a single sedan.
And frankly they have not improvised anything. Just done patches work here & there.

@adamkathy23 My question to you is how much are you getting if you sell now. Obviously person buying would come to know of the hidden cost of 40k. So in this condition what is it that you are getting if you sell it..... If you have the finances to go for another one and are getting decent amount for your logan, which I really suspect and hence want to know, it is a wise decision to change. My knowledge says selling 1.4 petrol Logan and one without any additional costs in repairs would yield a mere 100k to 150k. In fact this reason coupled with fact that the vehicle is doing good keeps me from changing. I want to be wrong on my knowledge and want to know your findings.

Verito is doing good. However as we all know there is tough competition now in market across all segments. I do feel M&M lacks many things specially in sedan segment. There are major players of likes of Skoda, VW, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and M&M beating them all with Verito is highly unlikely.

As far as maintaining Logan goes I don't think it would be discontinued.

If M&M lets it go hope atleast Renault will take it back as far as servicing and maintenance are concerned. I wouldn't want to part with it and intend to keep my Logan for a really long time.
