I feel a little weird that Mahindra when getting this car into India forgot that India is basically a HOT country and so we need more Cool settings than Hot. Its really irritating that we have only a few spots for Cool and many more for the Heater which we'll hardly ever use
This is really Basic isnt it guys...

this is something which i never noticed Smile

if you are talking about more red dots.. yes, that is there Smile

but i set it on the maximum all the time, because this is what works in our hot and humid climate conditions... nothing lower!

Yes of course u need cool most times. But these days its raining cats and dogs here in Mumbai and with parents in the car, there needs to be a more moderate setting whic may me Much more useful than the More Heat setting{more red dots} that we have...

do you use the windscreen blower to de-mystify your windshield? if so in which temperature setting and with/without the AC on?

i have found using the ac to dry the chamber also makes the car too cold at times.. so i use the window blower, with the chamber vents shut and the temperature in 1 red (least hot) with AC off.. is this the right way?

Without AC off I was not able to demistify the windscreen. Is that literally possible? I use to keep AC on to demist the windsshield

Misting occurs OUTSIDE the glass.

This is similar to a cold glass of water on which water condenses to form the mist. As long as it is cold enough, misting will occur.

Using the heater warms up the glass to evaporate the water droplets.

You are not BLOWING OFF the misting effect, it goes only if the glass warms up.

Also avoid pointing the vents in such adirection that a direct cold stream of air hits the glass. Turn them inwards or downwards towards the seats.

Logan_loverinDelhi wrote:

thanks tomlai... the issue i am talking about is the inside mist and not the outside mist you referred to.. the article below gives a technical know how on how and why it happens.. my query remains that when the outsilde temperature is too low.. turning the ac on is only going to chill my bones... what does one do then? Stu, what do you do over there? when it is raining real hard.. i have been in bangalore where temperature is rather temperate.. but driving on the Himalayas means the temperature falls very quickly ..

Condensation on the inside of a car windscreen occurs when warm, humid air inside the car meets the cool windscreen. The temperature of the air on the windscreen drops, the air can no longer hold all the
water vapour it is carrying, and condensation forms.

To demist the windscreen, the condensed water must evaporate - or be wiped - off the windscreen. The more water vapour air contains, the higher the water vapour pressure, and one of the main factors determining whether water evaporates off a surface is the water vapour pressure gradient. Evaporation increases the water vapour pressure of the adjacent air, and if the water vapour pressure of this air reaches the same level as its surroundings evaporation may cease.

When cool dry air is circulated by the car's ventilation system, this point is rarely reached. The air sucked in by the air-conditioner becomes dry as it cools and this creates a favourable water vapour pressure gradient for evaporation from the windscreen. The windscreen clears more quickly when the fan is on high speed as the air near the
windscreen is changed more frequently.

Aah, you are having the OPPOSITE of what we normally face in hot hot humid Kolkata !

What I do when it is raining hard is keep windows rolled up, AC on MINIMUM cooling (FIRST Blue dot), vents turned to face the windshield and away from the passengers. Use AC just enough th demist then switch off if too cold for comfort!

Basically the AC will work as a dehumidifier, damp air when it comes in contact with the AC coils, will condense to water droplets and be removed from the air.

Being in a non-AC car in heavy monsoons is a real pain ...

Using 1st blue dot with AC on helps me to demist the windscreen immediately.

Same effect is also possible with using red dots. however, it takes longer (probably, till the galss warms up) before demisting starts. The initial minutes are a terror with the red dots.

Also, my outer surface of glass just doesnt seem to get rid of the wet patches. The droplets get wiped off, but the wet patch remains put.

Any suggestions?

Apply Rain repellant on outer surface of glass. There will only be water beads, no smearing water film

AND/OR you could clean the outer surface of the glass with a good cleaning agent, the muck, oil, and God knows what else get deposited on the glass which does not get removed on normal cleaning, there is a foam available, enquire at the shops selling auto accessories.

To demist your windscreen with the heater - you need to move the selector lever at the bottom to the extreme left so that you are letting in fresh air into the car - demisting by using the heater with re-circulating air will take forever.

Letting in fresh air through the heater is definitely better than freezing yourself by switching on the AC in the winter Very Happy .

Thanks.. Anyone have any trouble with the air circulation knob? The one in my car tends to get stuck sometimes - especially when turned all the way clockwise - to the position where only the vent on the top of the dashboard puts out air.

Takes a bit of extra effort to turn it back. I afraid of letting the service people open up my dashboard to get to the blower - might end up with bad rattle.

Wondering if I should get that looked at. Question

Ya same problem ... The cable controlling this very knob in my Logan has becone disconnected and hence there is no control. Somwhow the air is blowing through the normal fashion(justbychance) otherwise will need to take it in to the Workshop to open up the dashboard ... since it is sort of working now I will prob. take it to be done only at the next service!

So another problem that's seems common in these blower units - if anyone gets it opened - please try and see who the supplier is - so we can thank him for the great quality. Evil or Very Mad Kidding - just wondering if there's another option available - I'm not keen on getting mine opened/replaced unless I know its going to fix the problem.

Won't want to risk getting a bunch of rattling noises(odds are that that will happen once the dash is opened up once) in return for nothing.

Tomali - since you have the disconnected cable - please update us on your observations when you get yours fixed.
