PostSubject: Driving experience in Logan (Diesel)   LOGAN - Driving experience in Logan (Diesel) Icon_minitimeSat May 10, 2008 1:01 pm

I am yet to buy the Logan. I did a short (2 km local) test drive inside the city (Bangalore). I also did the same with Fiesta. I felt:

1. Logan has more NVH (the demo car had done ~16500 Km)
2. Logan's pick-up was poor
3. At lower speeds the engine was jerky (I coudl not drive in 3rd gear at 20 Kmph)
4. Interior coudl have been better in DLE

All the above were better in Fiesta (the demo car had done ~200km)
Fiesta had better:
1. Refined look
2. Refined NVH, engine/transmission

I did not like Fiesta's:
1. Space
2. Interioir (Yes! I liked Logan DLE interior better)
3. Driver seat comfort (it has side lobes that did not let my shoulder rest easily down)
4. Poor leg space for the driver

I am not so technical w.r.t. torque/engine/transmission but this observation is just a 'feel'.

Any comments?

LOGAN - Driving experience in Logan (Diesel) 2480361695_0b924de364I have just returned from My drive to England and Back
I had a average of 7,2ltrs to 100km I was traveling mostly at 130 kph and once hit 160kph this would be be about 150kmh in real speed (BY GPS)
@ Deepak
It is not a very good idea to drive any car in 3rd gear at speeds of 20kph you will ruin the clutch in no time
My car is a 14 MPI and I canoot fault it on pick up and from Germany to England I did not need to change down on any hill
My rule of the thumb though is this always change down and up at 2000 kmh you will then find you have the power that you need

Deepak u can drive the car easily in 3rd gear above 25km speeds, below that wont work as every car has a gear change ratio, and Logan has the best among all, pickup may be low, as it is configured to give good mileage, these settings vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. as far as ford fiesta is concerned i wont put my money on it as ford cars are damm expensive to maintain and service, also fiesta cost more than Logan both for petrol and diesel versions

Hi,

Am a new member on this forum. I don't own a Logan yet but am considering buying the Mahindra Verito (Diesel) version.

The discussions I've seen on this forum validates my conviction about the car - space, ride, boot space, etc. But I do have two concerns:

1) How's driving the Logan up the hills? Does it have sufficient torque to pull a full-loaded car - 5 people and lots of luggage) uphill with reserves for overtaking?

2) Has anybody felt wanting on ground clearance (compared to a Dzire or Fiesta).

Glad for feedback, especially from those driving often in the hills.

Dont be put off by some of the stuff you read on here I have the european model Dacia 1400 Logan and it pulls like a Donkey .Its a case of as in all cars right gear at the right time
The ground clearance must be OK for you as it was made for eastern block country’s like Russia and Poland who sometimes only have tracks
I drive mainly Autobahn and I can keep a constant 140 kmh no problem ..It will do 155 but this is not really needed and I have never had to change down lower than 4th gear on Hills (Its also all about reading the road ahead and hitting the hill at a good speed)

I've driven a lot on hills and can vouch for the Logan's performance. I have even taken 6 full grown adults on hills in the first 2 months of ownership. Its alwatys been adequate.

Ground clearance has been a concern mainkly in Bangalore and surrounding areas, due to the unearthly speed breakers here.

Welcome to the forum div Smile

Pulling power is sufficient with full load provided that correct gear and RPM is maintained.
Maintaining 1500 RPM will do the trick for you.

Why don't you do a test drive in Coimbatore with full load and see if Logan is able to handle it?
Iam saying Coimbatore because, I feel it has relatively more inclines than Chennai.

GC for 90% of Chennai speed breakers is fine. But need to be careful about tall speed breakers. Especially when there is full load extra care should be taken.

Hoping to hear more from you Smile

Thank you Martin, Vsup, Mycool.

I did test drive the Logan at Bangalore (a couple of days before the Verito was launched). Drove the car on the inclines (Hosur Road flyovers). This was unlike sustained uphill driving. Besides there was not much traffic when I took the test and could gear shift and rev as required. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, even on flat ground I did find a little slack, especially. Having owned a Fiat11NE earlier, am used to gear shifting. That has not been a concern.

The reason for "Sleeping Policemen" as we call Speed Bumps is to slow the driver down .So if you drive slow and dont go over them head on you will have no problem no matter how big they are .The trick is to go over at a slight angle ie front right then front left then back right and back left follow .making it not so uncomfortable for the passengers That is an Old army trick we used in Belfast Northern Ireland back in the 70s
