| Hi all i am a new comer to the community, am a serving defence officer and had been looking for a sedan. i have a maruti 800 at present. i have booked a 2008 may logan with just 4000 kms on the odo. the plastic cover of seats and panels have also not been removed. no scratches etc..deal is at 1.7 lakhs. I have made up my mind to go for it...will spares be an issue? i spoke to mahindra kolkata. they say spares are available...so what are your views...and should i take it for a service before i take it out in the city?? and should i change the battery considering that it was unused for 6 years?? please give your views and guidance..my monthly running will be around 700-1000 kms at the most. | |

| Hi Avinandan,
Is it a Petrol or Diesel? If petrol, 1.4 or 1.6? An important question, Why is the owner selling it? If the reason is limited usage, then why decide to sell after 6 years?
Since you mentioned it is a 2008 model, and run very les, atleast has it undergone the routine services?
While the deal is good in terms of money, a 6 yr old vehicle juststanding is likely to have many issues. Please think of it this way. The vehicle has seen 6 summers, 6 rainy seasons and 6 winters mostly standing in 1 place.
Some of my concerns are below. While they may not be critical, I would have apprehensions: - Idle lying engine. Not much activity - Fuel & Oil Sump Condition. Ok? Dried? - Tyres Condition (Deformation) - Electricals & Wiring Harness Condition. Rats love wires. And a stationary car is heaven to them - AC Condition - Fuel Tank Sensors - and many more as I think of it
When was the vehicle last used?
It shouldn'tso happen that you take delivery of the vehicle and gradually things start surfacing up. That will be a really unpleasant situation.
Please probe and get more details if you are not in a hurry to settle this deal.
Good Luck!

| Hi, Thanks for the reply. it is a 1.4 petrol. i checked with the service station, first three services are done. next service is due now. service station says that timing belt needs to be changed every three years and hence is due now. some other belts too need to be changed... just wanted to know how much will it cost? can i do it outside? does the car require a special timing belt that will fit in logan only??
the story why the owner is selling is ..." they had got it as a dowry during their sons marriage, they have 5 other maruti cars and keep using them as logan was a big car and unsuitable in their crowded area."
Please give your feed back.
