power steering pump problem

my 2010 model mahindra logan powersteering pump is not working when i went to service station they just open the bumper and say it will have to be changed and the cost of new pump is Rs. 31000/-  thats why mahindra logan or you can say verito sale is sluggish poor and cheap plastice quality non availability of spare parts in chandigarh and labour rates are too much high in service centre only two service centre goel motors mohali and swami automobile chandigarh. if anyone has any suggestion regarding power steering pump pls send :xmy email is

well how about explaining the symptoms ie what happened and did it just stop and is the oil chamber full and can you steer at all

hi amrik,

I am also facing the same Power Steering pump problem :-( and now they are saying that pump need to be replaced and the cost is Rs. 32K. Did you get any responses/suggestions?

Symptoms !!! that’s what we need ! Why did you take the car to have it checked was the power steering not working or was it leaking was the oil chamber full ! without any information we (us members) cannot point you in the right direction

I had light stiffness in the steering when taking turns and also if I rotate the steering completely while taking U turns, I was getting some kind of noise from below . Hence I took it to the service station. They messed it up made it worse now and my steering is so hard that I fear to take the care out with this condition

The Steering is not light all the time ! it depends on Engine Revs and also on tire pressures It is normal to get a noise when you put a full lock on ie a U turn this is your pump working very hard extracting oil and returning oil

The steering could have a air bubble in the system


Bleed the circuit by turning the steering wheel from
lock to lock with the engine switched off in the first
instance.
and then
Bleed the circuit by turning the steering wheel from
lock to lock with the engine running.
Check the oil level in pump reservoir
Top up the level of oil in the reservoir.

Check that there are no leaks.

Give that a try

Thanks Martin. The air pressures in tyre were perfect. I went to local mechanic we could see there was no oil leakage from the pump and oil level was also sufficient. We could find that internal motor was not working... so has to be replaced and cannot be rectified :-(

hi guys my 2007 dle logan's steering is making some noise from a while now i never got it checked as i thot it may be from the suspension as its old now but yesterday i checked it carefully whenever i turn the steering to one side completely(right or left) some vibration noise comes from the engine downside its like ghurrrrr just like something is vibrating i got the suspension checked from bosch service center near my house here they said its coming from the steering system so that is why i searched this on here.. any suggestions?

When you say from one side do you mean a FULL lock ! ? the steering will make a noise its a Hydrol system and you will hear it and also feel it on the steering wheel if its working Ok then its Ok just check the fluid level and make sure it is not dropping

yes martin full lock, whether its right or left or whether the car is moving(while taking a u turn) or idle(while parking etc.), the noise comes from the front downside that is why i used to think it is from suspension but i carefully checked it yesterday when the car was not even moving that is how i came to know that it is from something else. steering is working ok it is little stiff but ok not jammed etc. about the noise its a strong vibrating noise i dont feel anything on steering at all i just hear it from the front side.. i got the oil level checked at the bosch service center which i visited yesterday they said its fine now i am planning to visit mahindra service center as soon as i can.

I think its ok ! Mine does the same and always has done Maybe you are just worrying but yes get it looked at they will check the pressure

ok martin thanks for the quick replies.. actually i was worried because the noise was not there till last year, i think from almost 1 year it is there i never took it seriously thinking its from suspension but it increased with time and when yestrday i noticed it carefully and came to know its related to steering it made me worried. any how will get it checked soon. thanks

the logan power steering and duster power sterring is same as per some good mechanic and duster parts is available in  open market. please try in that way to get cheap power steering parts.

I have 2011 mahindra verito D6 and since last few months, i was feeling that the steering has become heavier than it used to be.

 Checked with Local mechanics and they had no clue (except that it may be pump issue). But they were honest in saying that I should go to Mahindra workshop as they dont have much expertise on Verito.

 So, I went to Sterling Motors Gurgaon. The patiently checked first using the OBD port - laptop ->
result -> Pump is ok. :-)
 Second, they raised the car and cheked from below that all the mechanicals were also ok -> no worries.
 
 Finally, they lowered the car and put some oil at the front shock absorber mount/strut mounts on both sides from sides of the circular .
 
 This worked - the car steering is better now.

As Stu mentioned, on full lock (either left or right), the Hydraulic Steering of Logan will make an extra grinding type of noise.
Very normal and ok.

Glad to get some insight on the issue fix with vivid description. Btw mine too is a 2011 D6 !
