Fuel gauge in DIS only showing 35 litres with full tank

I am having strange problem in my logan edge 1.4 glx petrol version 2 months old. I had filled the full tank but when i see the fuel gauge in DIS it shows only 7 filled means black bars while other 3 as empty strokes. Any ideas what might have wrong. I have resetted both the trip meter as well as litre consumed indicator.

Thinking it might have some issues in the fuel gauge. Any ideas or suggestions for this.

Its possible that the float in the fuel tank is stuck in one position. Does the level indicated by the DIS fall as the fuel is consumed?

I just had it filled yesterday. I have to wait for atleast 2 days to consume 5 lts. Will check on it. however the shortage is of 15 ltrs. May be if it does not drop then another 5 days for total of 15 Lts.

If you fill up with the Ign switch On you will get a false reading so never leave the ignition on
I mean just the Ignition Switch on
Some do it so the passengers can hear the radio

Yes. This happened to me too. Was completely puzzled till I figured it out after it happened the 3rd time.

This is the most likely problem here.

yep.. Happened to me as well, the bar didnt rise up at all till my next refill with the ignition off... Some system bug may b!

No Bug The Ign must be turned off then when you turn it on it does a test It does not test continualy just after Ign is turn back on

In my old Maruti 800 manual it was strictly mentioned never to keep ignition on while refilling. What might be the reason for that?

Filling up might stir up some dirt and the fuel pump will suck it up?

The reason you dont leave the motor running and fill up the tank is FIRE ! Its a fire precaution and its common sense and as for stiring up dirt everytime you pull away or turn corners or go over bumps it stirs dirt

I got it right now. I just filled the tank with ign off and it is showing as expected without any issue after the ign back on. thx everyone

Well to tell you the truth I own a Logan 1.4 petrol for the last 30 months and have a good overall experience of ownership. Being a mechanical engineer by qulifications I also adhere to the do's and don't's while refilling. Last evening I purchased a full tank of fuel (45 lts approx) and while my car was being refuelled the ignition key was definitely switched off. Even then the guage is showing incorrect information whereas there is 49 lts of petrol in the tank. What can we attribute this problem to? Can anyone suggest please?

Faulty sender in the Tank ! Or you are being ripped off at the Pump (This Happens)

No such issue as a dent in the tank. Just checked on it this morning while replacing a flat tyre!! and I use the same petrol pump for the past nearly 2 yrs and it is a company owned company operated pump so this possibility has also been ruled out. Any educated guesses to my problem bro? Also, how would you explain the presence of approx 49 liters of petrol in the tank this morning as checked from the display?

Unfortunately there is no provision of uploading pictures here else I could have shown it to you!!

Well the tank holds approx 50 ltrs you can get by filling up the pipe to the filler cap about 58 ltrs ! How are you measuring 59 ltrs ??? are you reading the Computer read out on the dash ? if so forget it just use the Bars on the right !
also Rest the computer on the dash to zero after a fill up !But like I said the display for fuel is not exact !

But Martin!! brother, I purchased about 45 ltrs of fuel as displayed by the pump. And if the display shows 49 ltrs presently then about 4 ltrs was already present there. So it seems to be quite accurate to me.

As you said You are a mechanic so I will leave this "Minor" problem to yourself
