Updated: Service advice required? Service done

My Logan DLS is now 5 years old and driven around 39,000 KMs only. I have been following distance based service scedule regularly (couple of extra services) on around every 7000 - 8000 KMs.

Now I am worried about the 60K major service schedule where they change Timing belt etc. If you go by book services should be based on either mileage or time (whichever comes first) but since service now a days becom very costly affair so most of people stick to mileage option.

What would like to suggest about getting this major service in my case, should I go for timing belt change etc or wait for meter to click 60K?

Everything seems as perfect as it was, no extra engine noise or electronics failure or any history of breakdown. Just changed tyres and self fixed some broken plastic parts like power window, side mirrors etc.

The only problem bothers me is its hard clutch which gets even harder after cont. driving for > 100 kms.

4 year ! either do it or get a new engine if it snaps

So what other parts which should need immediate attention? I mean to check with service guy fixing all.

Timing belt, tensioner, etc and what else?

@Ezee How much estimate they have given for 60k servicing?

@Deccansand I have yet to contact service center for this. The problem here in Lucknow is they dont have well qualified logan engineers, so you need to know what are you asking for.

Trying to get a list of parts to be replaced or checked in this service. If anyone has please share !!

Water Pump ,Cylinder head Gasket ,rocker cover gasket waterpump and Gasket ,Tensioner and the main part the timing belt

In service manual it says: Timing Belt, Accessories & Roller apart from normal service.

You cannot replace the timing belt "WITHOUT" the gasket kit Mate

What am I talking about ?? Of course you can ! its just the belt and Pump but you need gaskets for the pump .Hey Stu was wrong at last ............Rule 2 applys

Is the visible rubber belt from outside is the timing belt or there is some other belt apart from that?

Also do we need to change tensioner as well if found in good condition?

Finally service is done yesterday ! My car clocked only 39000 KM's but I opted for 60,000 KMs service just becasue Its 5 year old now.

Service done at A. Automovers, Lucknow and changed parts are: Accessory belt, Timing belt, tensioner, clutch cable with regular service parts. Total cost of service came Rs. 9,992.

Once again disappointment at service station regarding quality of service done and technical knowledge, as I had to force them and explain them for parts to be replaced. No tools to check nut torque, belt tension, timing set, belt mounting etc, they simply do all work with wrench (Pana) etc.

Servicing meaning to them is changing engine oil, air filter, oil filter and fuel filter followed by washing. By seeing this I lost my patience and talked to service manager asking him for the servicing checklist sheet, he arranged once and I explained him what servicing means. Once again they covered all points in just 15 mins. Lubricated doors, cleaned washers etc.

This pathetic quality of service by Mahindra is creating more problems for us to handle Logan in long run. I have got news that now they make all parts for Verito including engine and changes are not matching with old logans, so fingers crossed for future for spare parts of old logans.

@ezee, can you give the cost breakup for 9992/-. I want to know the cost for Timing belt. couple of month i would be touching 60k and would be giving it for the 60k service.

Hi ... Yes, please let me know the breakup too please. Sent my Logan 1.5 DLX, which has just touched 60K kms in 3 years to a service centre in Okhla in Delhi today. They quoted me a whopping Rs.22,000, for which they would need to keep the car overnight at the dealership despite it being sent at 9 am this morning. I promptly asked my driver to bring the car back. They say the timing belt has to be serviced in addition to other things such as engine de-carbonising etc and the standard filter changes. To me, this sounded excessive particularly since there is no repair or component change that is required. The clutch plate has been replaced two months ago after a total cluth failure, the brake pads are new as are the tyres and servicing has been done at exactly 10,000 kms. The place looks and certainly sounds like a sabzi-mandi ... it was impossible for me to get a breakup of the exact costs from the service advisor who was attending to others simultaneously ... infuriating. My question is this ... Is it absolutely mandatory to change the timing belt ? And is engine de-carbonising required ?

engine decarbonising is a JOKE BUT Yes you do need to have the Belt Changed !if it breaks it is a Capital Engine damage !!!

Also engine treatment and decarb is all bogus untill you have related symptoms and didnt follow the normal service intervals.

Just tell service center to change following and charge for that:

Timing Belt, Tensioner, Idler pulley, Accessory belt (fan belt), tensioner (if required) - thats it

Changing clutch cable etc is upto you.

@martin as per tech water pump in Indian logans are not required to change as they are at different position and can be changed separately.

@Ezee Where is your Water pump then ? ours (and most modern motors are are bolted onto the side of the motor and worked by the timing belt .Older motors used to run the pump and the alternator from one belt

Thanks ezee for the breakup of costs for servicing at 60 K kms. I have now completed my 60 K servicing but have ended up paying a fair bit more than you but far less than what Koncept Motors Okhla, New Delhi were quoting me ...

Drove across town to Sri Durga Automobiles, Rama Road promptly at 8 am to find a decidedly better and far far larger servicing facility. The car, remarkably, feels as good as new after the work.

I think its the Timing Belt set ... which, as I understand it, comes as part of a kit with several components all of which are installed. Experts ?

You are right martin its timing belt only and Courroie Striee is Accessory belt (aka fan belt).

But for what they charged "Set-Timer SFT DRVR .. Rs 4030.22", in my case there is no such charge. It seems to me is timing set charge which is not required untill your existing belt has gone mad / given up. Labour charges also seems very high.

I think they mean Engine timing ! ie setting the valves and Tappets
Go for it though attack them and ask them for a Clear Bill for you to show on the forum !!!!! This will worry them !

Service Invoice

Ok, I am going tomorrow to get the timing belt and the related belts get replaced, Any recommendations for preferred service centers in Delhi/NCR??

I am thinking it should cost me around 15,000 including the paid service, Does it look like the correct assumption? I own a GLE 1.4.

Get the Water Pump done as well ! it should also get done with that service automatically
