Axle Rubber boot Right Side not available / axle change only

Recently i sent my car petrol 1.4 GLE for servicing. The service supervisor called me & told me that the Right side rubber boot covering the Axle from tyre side is worn out & leaking fluid. He told me that Only Axle change is the solution as Mahindra Logan Does not have part number for Right Side rubber boot of Axle & same can not be changed individually where as left side boot is available.

I urge all of you to kindly share your experience or If somebody aware of the situation like this & can guide me,

I own a diesel. To the best of my knowledge you have no option other than replacing the drive shaft. It may cost you about Rs10000/- and odd.
I didn't know that a left side boot is available.

Its a tripod joint and the leakage of oil will add friction to the movement of the wheel. Get this replaced as soon as possible.

Finally i could solve the problem with Mahindra Service station in respect of Right side Axle rubber boot. It is very much available....... Although i really had to work out took two hours on phone talking to various persons / service station & finally got the part number through which i can catch the goof up of the Service station Incharge. So be aware instead of spending 10000/- (for the complete axle) it was a job of Rs.3000/- only. Took chance lets see
how it works........

From now on I always search for part availability in ebay.co.uk just as Stu posted. Here the Service center was charging me Rs 3000 for Logan Gear knob. I finally got it from ebay uk for Rs 1300 including shipping charge.

Recently I needed to change change the self starter assembly which cost me Rs 17k. This part has been availiable in ebay.co.uk for around Rs 6000. But I was a bit hesitant if this part from ebay will fit our Logan because the workshop frightened me with the incompatibility of local parts with the ones fitted in Logan.

I had mine changed some time back, if the boot cracks you have to change. I did on my car and it cost me @ rs 15K, and that's very expensive. On a different note I did meet a local chap who repairs axle and he said he will be able to fix it for me, but I didn't opt for that as more often than not its a trial and error way!

Rs1300/- for gear knob! The service guys asked Rs3000/- and i searched all around Kochi for it and could not get from anywhere. Finally i got one from coimbatore. They charged me Rs2800/- for it.

Its a Big job changing the boot
