stiff steering

The steering of my 1.4 GLX Logan is quite stiff unlike other cars (my frens Logan 1.4 GLX steering too is smoother than mine).Service station ppl just refuses to acknowledge it and says its like this in all Logans... Did you noticed the stiff steering in ur car ? Please tell the model too.

First of all do you have Quality Tires ? (makes a big difference) and is the air high enough ?
I have owned 2 Logans and have also found that the Power Steering is not like lets say on an American car real light .
A test drive it in a area wher you are able to turn of the motor and try and steer (dont pull out keys) it should be hard to steer or even just sitting turn the wheel complet to the right or left with the motor running then try it with it not running !
I find with the harder steering I have more feel of the road

What I find irritating at the workshop is that sometimes they treat your complaint like it is either "normal" or a figment of your imagination.

If amit, you have been able to compare both car steering (like Stu says) on the same tyres and road surface aand still find your stiffer, you have something to complain about.

My complaint regarding my leaky HVAC vent went unrepaired for months. So persist with the workshop, they will have to listen to you eventually.

Even I had the same problem, after serviceing i find it to be much smoother than it use to be.

Welcome to the community Amit! I'll suggest you make the service advisor drive the showroom test drive car first and then your car. If he still does not agree, contact his superior. Or you can show it to an another dealer/service centre.

Tyres and tyre pressure also matter.

The stock tyres in the Logan do make the steering a bit heavy.

Check the tyre pressure every 15 days. You must be getting 30psi filled in all the tyres. Also try 32 in front and 30 in rear.

Also, since the Logan has a hydraulic power steering system, it is a little heavier than the electric PS systems (found in Marutis). But in my opinon, the former is better.

Yes I had in my Twingo Electric power steering it was a feelingless steering .Sooner the Hydraulic anyday youseem to be able to feel the road on the steering wheel and the electric one is just Wierd

As discussed couple of times on this forum underr various threads Logan Power Steering is hydraulic and not electric.

Different Power Steering mechanisms are:
-- Hydraulic
-- Electro Hydraulic
-- Electric

Again several subversions exist which different car manufacturers have designed and patented.

Road feel is something that gives driver the subjective perception that they are engaged in steering the vehicle. This is all together low in Electric Powerr Steerings.

In places like India where we have bumper to bumper traffic, Electric Power Steering systems will not prove effective. Though this is not the reason for Logan to have Hydraulic Power System.

Fundamentally engineering complexity for hydraulic power steering is more then electric one but with lesser cost as the intelligent electric components of the later one exist as mechanical components like belts, pumps creating hydraulic pressure driving the steering...
