| Hi off late i have been noticing heavy black smoke from exhaust. I guess this could be either due to rich mixture of air and fuel or a faulty EGR. spoke to the authorised service guy and he has asked to bring the car for check up. since have clocked 50000+ kms i have decided to give it for servicing tomorrow.
Any other reason you know for the black smoke? Pls help:(

| Main reason for Black smoke is wrong gear at wrong time ! if you try to drive in a high gear slowly thats ok but if you give gas to go faster it will not burn all the fuel and just pump it through the manifold try this out 1 drive at 50 kmh in 5th and then give full gas !!! Black Smoke
2 drive in 5th at 50 kmh and change down to 3rd and give gas !!! NO Black Smoke
This is a known thing with diesel motors !Even Mercedes and Bmw.s do it as well

| have the silencer cleaned to begin with. then undertake a very fast run for a short interval at high rpm. some mechanics may do this stationary. this may clear its innards. Mostly it would be to do with excessive carbon in exhaust system. In our country with cars sitting idle in traffic for hours in cities and not getting enough fast highway runs. after this DIY tuneup , ur problem would most probly go away. if the vehicle is behaving normally after this fill it and forget it. if it doesnt then it could be 1) bad fuel 2) incorrect mixture 3) pump setting 4) turbo charger malfunctioning 5) engine tune issue 6) valve clearance or sticky pistons 7) fouled injectors choked air filter and egr / turbo plumbing | |

the gentleman has done 50000+ km in 3 yrs., if he complains of black smoke , why would i assume he is not driving in the right power band ? real world traffic situation here is totally different, it has serious implication on the engine and exhaust system.

| both u guys are not wrong if driven on correct gears at times smoke is less or can say not at all but in india because of poor diesel quality and mixing also because of traffic and driving conditions black smoke is common and after 50.000 kms u can get its air intake system and silencer cleaned my dle has done about 53,000 and on its last service which was done on 50,000 kms i also had these things done and now i dont see any smoke untill i rev. the engine too hard.. | |

| Got the 50000kms service done at Mahindra service centre and total bill was Rs.6755/-. They said Engine mount has to be replaced which costed Rs.1433/- Breakup of 6755/- Diesel Fuel filter - 1341/- Filter oil - 375/- CRTG Air Filter - 497/- Wiper Rubber - 138/- Rapid Windscree wash liquid - 87/- RING-MTG, Air supply filter HS - 222/- ROD Torque ( Engine mount) - Rs.1433/- Engine oil MMPules - 4.1ltrs - Rs.998/- Labour charges - Rs.1664/- There was no issue with EGR. As per service guy the black smoke could be becuase of old filters. Now I dont see that much of black smoke. Did a long drive to Pune & back - 1400 kms and vehicle was fine. Gave a milage of 21kmpl on highway. | |

| Did they say why the engine mount was changed ? Was the engine wobbling about in the mounting ? could you feel a bang when you gave gas ? or changed gear ! Sounds a Strange thing to me ! | |

| The vehicle used to jerk on changing gears but unfortunately i still notice the problem inspite of changing the mount. Need to visit the garage once again. He showed me the old part which was worn out but still the problem continues. | |

| yes stu,
The engine mounting which deccan sand has mentioned is not original. It is duplicate & brakes its neck around 10,000 kms, where as engine mounting is never changed in entire life of car.
I had also faced problem of engine mounting , but procured the originl renault mounting & get it fit from my local mechanic. Huge difference i say in quality . very sturdy & good finish of product. & main embossed Renault Logo, costed me for Rs.4100/-.
In case black smoke coming coninuously. check at what particular rpm the smoke is coming.
If at neutral @ 3500+ rpm you are noticing smoke it's not issue. It happens.
It's happens in every car. You see Tata's even at 2000+ rpm at neutral given heavy black smole doesn't they?
