| Hi all,
I have a Logan DLS diesel car and last week I filled nitrogen gas in my car tyres. Initially I maintained typre pressure at 29 PSI for all tyres as per car maker specification. But then I found that Nitrogen makes the tyres too soft and it reduced the ground cleared a lot. While driving in the city (Bangalore) I could feel the under chasis hitting every road hump.
I went back to Nitrogen gas vendor (Madhu's Enterprises on KH Road, Bangalore) and he said, it may be because of the fact that Nitrogen gas is softer and provides more cushioning than the ordinary air. So he did a top up of 35 PSI in each of the typres and asked me to watch for few more days. Now I feel the tyre pressure better than the initial scenario, and so is the ground clearance. But still while runningn on a free way, I dont feel much comfortable at higher speeds.
I am planning to drive down to my hometown for about 450 kms far on May 01. So I wanted to know whether anybody tried this so far? If yes, please let me know your inputs. Thanks a ton.
Regards Ganesh | |

| Yes thats correct. Nitrogen is originally used in aircrafts to handle the weight, velocity & traction on the wheels. This is also considered to be stable gas, which means it wont expand on application of heat and wont shrink on application of cold. This way, the tyre pressure remains the same, hence better tyre life & mileage.
BTW I have completed mky home town trip. In four days I drove around 1800 kms and it was just fantastic. I maintained my tyre pressure at 35 psi. And I guess this is an ideal configuration for Logan DLS.

| NItrogen for tyres is good,( theoretically) Saumil it costs Rs 100 for 5 tyres with a warranty for 3 months (they will top up / refill for 3 months free). However you are not supposed to mix air with nitro, so if you are going out and you need to check air pressure and top it up you end up in a problem, or if there is apuncture, one of your tyres is on air others on nitro. nice but inconvenient, anyway I have not yet seen any special benefit from nitro | |

| hey debashish i think u inqiured on the mumbai -pune expressway... there's no warranty given newhere else... somewhere it costs Rs 25 per tyre, whereas sumwhere Rs 50.... as for the benefit the ride indeed has smoothened... no substantial change in fuel economy though... but yes it doesnt require to be topped up every now n then... and my name is SUDHANSHU | |

| In my country had been try to offer for client to pump the tyres by nitrogen. It seems to me this service has not found its customer. I only smiled in response to these offers. Remember the air consists per se of nitrogen on 80%. Any Nitrogen gas vendor will not offer you more clean nitrogen than 95%. The difference is so small that it is not worth the effort and the cost. ps it's only my opinion | |

| bstr!! i agree with you my man... speding lots of bucks just for the hell of air isnt right....
science sometimes is right.. nitrogen is the most prevalent gas.. and gas will expand and escape in some situation or the other. so use the normal air around you... soft tyres wear out faster!! so in short, use nitrogen, u wear out your tyres faster than what they have been made for!!

| Subject: Use of Nitrogen gas in tubeless tyres Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:28 pm | |
| Hi Yesterday when I was at a fuel station checking for the tyre pressure, the person there asked me if I wanted to fill Nitrogen gas and gave advantages of the same such as -
- Increases fuel efficiency by 2-10%
- Do not get heated up
- Increases life of tyres
- etc. etc
Has anybody used Nitrogen in tubeless tyres. Any/all views on this issue are welcomed Regards Yogi

| Maybe I am a bit late in the day to join this debate.
Came across this web site which does talk about this topic and virtually everything else that one needs to know about tyres etc. It is in two parts; interesting to just glance through it.
