Yes duster is really catching up. Looks really great and price too is competitive. Renault seems to have struck Gold with it.

http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2013-02-12/news/37059083_1_renault-duster-suv-segment-indian-automobile-manufacturers

http://autoraman.com/duster-drives-ahead-renault-indias-december-sales-at-5924-units/

Scala and Pulse does not seem to have caught up so much. Pulse i feel its over priced for a small car even with its so much features. Nissan - Sunny seems to be doing good compared to Scala not sure why. Scala seems to have much more features though.

@ Kartheeswaran,

How much cost did you paid for the correction in timing gear. coz i feel it has started in my car, coz when i crank the car in morning, it takes continuous 3 second crank for start. So i does one thing regularly nowdays. I crank the engine once, car doesn't starts, again i turn off keys & keys on again. At this time at one crank engine starts. while doing this my left foot is pressing the clutch. after start of engine it is realesed.

Why this can happen? any idea experts?

Do you use the glowplugs ? if yes then maybe they are getting old ! OR your battery is not up to what it needs to be for a Diesel motor ! this happens when the battery is low the motor takes more turns on starting ! also do you drive long journeys if not go for a hours drive and charge the battery !

PostSubject: Re: Mahindra Renault Logan problem related   Fri Mar 08, 2013 4:53 pm

Right.........my vehicle is parked for avg 4 days a week. but when i drives , drives more than 150 kms, always...

On highway stopped for 10-15 min doesn't occur the same problem. think need to change the glow plugs.

By the way 2morro i'm undertaking the project "STU'S STOCK FILTER". to place nylon cloth filter under the plastic . all material (stocks) are ready.

Also i'm planning to service evaporator coil 2morrow, it's getting really hot here nowadays. & i'm smelling dust when I switch the ac on.

I have got a foaming fluid which can be diluted with water & then sprinkle on the evaporator, then leave for 30-45 min. wash away by clear water.

But the thing is, as we have no access to coil, how should i do it? by creating small hole (20 mm) in plastic or make arrangement in space given for pollen filter??

A/c really needs servicing & i don't want to spend Rs.5000/- for the servicing in ASS,

All Experts, Suggest please..

Vabs....

I have no advice on AC as it does not get hot enough here so I did not have one as for the the Stock Filter Dont forget use Ladies Tights or stockings they work Brilliant I still tend towards a Battery problem !get someone to measure the amps after sitting for 4 days ! don't forget the alarm is on all that time ! and I bet you have a super Music center in there using lots of Electricity while driving and also do you need your lights on while driving ? Do you use the Glowplugs ! ie always warm them before starting ? its best to

Stu

Send some photos of the filter when finished

@vabs1981 You might also want to clean the drain plugs under the plastic mesh. After you remove the black plastic mesh, its very easy to remove the wiper water can also. There will be just one screw tightening it. The space below it will also be all dusty. There will also be drain plugs that can be pulled out and cleaned.

I had tried it going with our guru Stu's guidance.

Can you see the drain hole with the black drain plug removed and kept beside it. Its there at the both ends.

On this thread, I would request your attention, because even my logan (2007 1.6 GLX) is also facing the same problem as mentioned by Deepak in his first message on this thread.

The car mechanic tried the following:
1. Changing ignition coil
2. Changing the HT cables
3. Changing the spark plugs

But still this issue is not resolved. I already spent INR 7800 on this now. The car is with Silver Jubilee motors (Authorized service dealer of Mahindra) in Pune. They are still unable to find out the root cause and its already 3 days  that the car is with them.

Solicit a reply on this please, from you experts.

Regards,
Mahesh.

PostSubject: Re: Mahindra Renault Logan problem related   Mon Oct 05, 2015 11:10 am

Hello Experts,

I would elaborate the problem in my Logan 1.6 GLX 2007 model as follows:
1. The car is giving starting problems and it takes 7-8 times of ignition to do a self start.
2. The RPM gets a while to get adjusted to the "normal idling".
3. In any gear (especially 1st, 2nd) the car does not respond to the accelerator. Sometimes there is also a "tak-tak" sound coming from under the bonet when the car is in motion.
4. The car does not respond in the way it used to for the accelerator. Even though I bottom the accelerator, the car does not respond. After struggling to go after 2500 RPM, the car then responds to the accelerator but is still sluggish.

The car mechanic did the following for this problem, but was unable still to solve the problem:
1. Replaced the ignition coil; still the problem persists
2. Replaced the HT cords from ignition coil to engine; still the problem persists
3. Replaced spark plugs; still the problem persists
4. Cleaned the canister.
5. Disconnected the catalytic converter just to check if it was a problem with Catalytic converter; still the problem persists.

The garage fellow also checked the compression of the engine by removing the spark plugs and doing a self ignition with pressing clutch and accelerator. The compression in the engine is found to be normal.

The car is now with the authorized dealer and is getting checked since 5 days and still they are not able to find a solution.

Please suggest, as one of you experts mentioned something about cleaning the EGR valve and also the timing belt pin replacement. These are the things that still have not been done.

The car is running in duel fuel mode (Petrol and CNG) since past 4 years. The car has just clocked 80K on the speedometer which also sometimes gets stuck.

I seek your advice and expert opinion.

Regards,
Mahesh

What readings does the on board computer give ? if the motor is acting like this then the computer will pick it up and give a read out with fault finding numbers ! you can buy a OBD kit very cheap
Have you tried just running on Petrol ? also certain Renault motors are not made for gas and in the end the valves will burn out giving low compression below is a film on doing a compression test

Also you could check for a Blown cylinder head gasket ! Take off the Oil filler cap and look at the bottom of it is it milky and creamy ? Look at the water in the Cooling system is it going brown ( do you have to frequently top up your water ) look on the dipstick is it oil or is it milky and frothy AND ONE LAST THING IS THIS YOU SAY THE TIMING BELT HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED !  Maybe it has jumped a notch and your timing is completely out

The compression tests resulted in confirming a proper compression.
No, I am not getting white smoke from exhaust pipe.

And you OBD readouts ? and the timing ??? and why would they put a new ignition coil in the car ? it could be tested and also the same for the cable WHY ? and why change the spark plugs they can be cleaned and replaced and what is this (Cleaned the canister. ) ??? What canister
How many Km has you car done it is from 2007 so your timing belt is way past its changing date and you are heading for a complete disaster if you do not get it changed ! and also pretty soon it will be water pump time ! These things will break believe me ! Look below of what happens when a timing belt snaps
I would tip on timing belt has jumped a notch on its cog and the only way to find out is to get it changed by a GOOD garage and it does not seem that you have found a GOOD garage
The tapping you can hear and I hope it is not this could be the pistons hitting the valves ! this happens when the timing is out
READ THIS
Symptoms of a timing belt that has jumped/skipped a few teeth:

  • One Tooth: It will idle like normal and the exhaust will sound fine but cruise and WOT the car will feel like you've got no power and in most cases will hesitate and misfire.
  • Two Teeth: It will sound like somethings "knocking" which is likely the pistons kissing the valves. The car will start and idle but if it sounds like somethings knocking just because it starts DON'T DRIVE IT!
  • Three Teeth: Your bending valves, the car more than likely won't start,
