All the gear shifts in my Logan is as smooth as butter. Smile The only thing is that u have to press the clutch fully, and that's a good practice because it reduces clutch wear and tear.

Make sure your carpets have buttons to hold them in place on drivers side.

IF not this can also prevent brakes from being applied properly and lead to serious trouble when in need.

DRIVER SIDE FOOT MAT SHOULD NOT SLIDE AND SHOULD BE FIXED TO FLOOR WITH CLIPS PROVIDED

Points to keep in mind before engaging the reverse gear:

Make sure the vehicle has stopped completely.
Depress the clutch completely.
Place your hand on top of the gear lever and not on the side.
Push the gear lever to the extreme left, nudge it a little to the front and pull back the gear lever firmly and completely into the reverse slot.
Release clutch gradually.

Also as mentioned earlier make sure that the clutch can travel completely down.

Even I'm facing the same problem, in engaging reverse gear, they told me the same thing, just put the vehicle in the 1st gear then change to reverse.

I personally feel that the logic is very simple.. gears in our cars are completely mechanical devices.. engaging one and disengaging it sort of reboots the system and then slipping into another becomes easier.. more often than not i have seen people who drive their own cars change gears with a caress.. and in my experience, a caress only works with Maruti gear box.. all of the others require a firm hand shake..

love your car.. make it purr with your soft play.. but while changing gears, do it like a man...

i know am probably not making sense..but would like Stu to comment on this analogy.. (just for fun)

what I wanted to ask all of you is, what is the viscosity of the gear oil that you all use? all your recommendations seem like morning workout.stopping doing this and doing that.if you use anything thicker than 75W80 gearoil then that is the source of all your problems.mine goes into reverse without a hitch.

PostSubject: Re: 1.6: Problem in engaging reverse gear   Tue Nov 18, 2008 1:42 pm

I got a new Logan GLX 1.4 last week end. Its only 4 days old. I have got a reverse horn fitted which plays a nice music when I engage the reverse gear. But on two occassions I have seen that the reverse horn starts playing when I engage the reverse gear but the car does not move on releasing the clutch. I have to disengage and again engage the reverse gear. I am a new driver and I was thinking whether the fault is with the way I engage the reverse gear or the reverse horn or do I need to take up this issue with the servicing guys....

That is because its in the slot but hasn't engaged the gear completely. Don't go by the horn. At times when this happens you could also hear noise from the gearbox while releasing the clutch. Make sure you engage the gear completely. I don't think there is anything wrong with the car. I have faced this in the M800 at times.

As I have advised earlier also ...

Note the position of the gear lever when you properly engage it.

When you can hear some gear noise/or if the reverse gear is not engaging, the gear lever is actually half an inch in front of the proper position, and thus the gear had not engaged peoperly.

I have become conscious of this, and what I do is, to slowly release the clutch WHILE STILL PULLING BACK on the gear shift, after a point the gear will itself fully engage and the Gear Shift will move (with the help of the slight pressure you ere exerting) into its proper position.

I have experienced this in a Maruti WagonR as well
