Bought a second hand Logan

I've been following this club for a while now, great stuff.
I just recently bought a second hand Mahindra-Renault Logan 2007 1.4 GLE, run 28,000 kms.
Its my first car!!


When Initially checked out the car, it seemed to be in brilliant condition. I got it checked from 3 different sources and all of them said that it was in a brilliant condition.

Its now been 2 months that I've been driving this, touched 30,000 kms and I've started facing problems:

1. The power windows have stopped working. (the prev owner had them installed along with a lot of other cool stuff). I took the car to my mechanic, he couldnt figure out what the probem was, said the fuse was fine, and even checked the plugs under the bonnet, said they were fine too, it even confused him, said he would have to open it all up and check.

2. A couple of weeks ago while driving my car just stalled on the road, thankfully close to my place. And it wasn't starting. I noticed that there was fuel leakage everytime i moved the key into the ignition. Took it to the mechanic he said there was a problem in the fuel pump, something about not being locked properly. He fixed it and that cost me Rs. 1000, and not to forget a good 4-5 ltrs of petrol.

3. One more worrying thing for me is the mileage. My logan is giving me around 8-10 kmpl on petrol. Is it normal? Given my running of around 50-60 kms per day, most of it in-city driving it can become an expensive affair. Is it advisable for me to convert to CNG? Or is there anything I can do to better the mileage of my car?

4. My a/c since recently is giving me a tough time, no cooling and no power what so ever. Someone told me that there might be a problem with the motor or the coil. Any suggestions as to what it could be and what I should do about it ?

5. Just yesterday I noticed a huge crack in the gear knob, which can now break open any minute. Should i get a genuine part from Mahindra or will any other knob from the market do as it might be way cheaper?


All these issues have led me to wonder if it was a right decision to buy this car. Any of your suggestions and tips would be really helpful.

Congrats on your buy. I have the logan now for 5 years and have had trouble free service from it for over 74000km.

I will answer some of your queries below.

3. As a part of my job I had interviewed quite a many customers using petrol sedans in Mumbai (Dzire, Etios, Logan, city etc.) On an average, in the Mumbai city driving they were getting mileage between 6-11, with most responses being 7-8.
So I guess its more to do with the kind of traffic conditions.

After 4 years i had issue with AC. No cooling. Recently got the AC fixed up. It costed me 2500/-. they removed the dash board to reach the coils and clean up the entire thing. Its working super fine.

Did you get the AC serviced at the Mahindra A$$ or outside?
Over the last 1 week my AC cooling has reduced and today the Service Advisor asked me to get the AC Overhaul done since the car is completing 5yrs this month.

Its a 1-day job and he has put the estimate at Rs. 6000/- + tax

Any pointers?

I have got it done outside, the garage does only AC repairs. Mahindra ASS quoted 5k for the same job. yeah its around 5 hrs job.

Sent the vehicle for service and asked the service advisor him NOT TO do the AC overhaul.
Made him check for AC leakage and Gas level.

He called back and mentioned there was no leakage but AC gas remaining was only 200gms. Asked him to top it up and send back as I needed the car.
And now, the AC is fine. I dont think it wil need overhauling in the near future.

Service guys will sometimes try to convince you in getting those things done which fetch them better margins.

In may case they said gas is fine but coils needs to be looked into. Hope i was not robbed of my heard earned money:affraid:
