Engine Stalling

Hi,

My Logan DLE 1.5, November 2007 model has been running without a hitch, except on a few instances when the engine has switched off while the car is in motion. This usually happens when taking a slow right turn. This was reported to the dealer during the second free service (Jalandhar), when this was first experienced, however they brushed it off as nothing major. More recently this glitch happened once again a couple of days ago while doing a hill drive.

Do advise the possible causes for this and the solutions.

welcome to the forum - nice to see a senior citizen also following our posts.

and let not the dealer brush it off as "nothing major"; we all have been driving long enough to realise that engine switching off while the car is in motion is not the best thing happening and that it needs to be looked at seriously. imagine yourself driving uphill - say to shimla - in traffic and the engine switches off!! before you would know the vehicle following you would bang into your car.

he better take a serious look at it and get it sorted out.

I am sure other members here who are better technically inclined can give you a more suitable cause / effect explanation.

I Would take a guess at Injectors being blocked .Have you ever driven the car hard ?if not do so and blow out the injectors try some additive for the fuel which cleans the fuel system

Ask those chaps if they can clear the ECU and reload the values again. If this happens downhill and the car is in motion you will have problems applying brake.

If you want to clear the ECU just remove the Battery for a minute

This is real seriuos and do take it up strongly.. Try the battery wires thingy tat stu just said. if that works, great else go to the service station and get it rectified. if they say its minor, RAP them across the face!

I tell you guys I too faced this problem earlier but this was my fault becuase I was driving a petrol car earlier. Driving a diesel car is slightly different if you compare to petrol once in terms of pickup and slow driving with gear change.

Mr Singh is driving DLE (a diesel one) so:

- If Mr Singh never drove a Diesel car then it could be a matter of acceleration, gear change and pickup coordination because one cant drive Logan in 3rd gear at 20kmph (speed @ turning curves) yo need to change gears very often to 2nd or may be sometimes 1st too (at large humps).

- But if Mr Singh already tried other Diesel cars and on comparison found major difference in pickup, acceleration at low speeds then it needs to be taken care at service center.

For once I agree with ezee This definatly does happen witha Diesel car at low speed (real low) in fact I can force this to happen on my Iveco Van
Yes ezee is right be in the correct gear at thes dead low speeds or you will stall the engine

My logan faced same problem in 2010 .. i complained to co.
It was issue with some sensors in engine. Those local service centres even unable to find problem .. it contact company on no. provided in manual & get solved problem from company local guys unnecessorily play with useless things

Before doing anything with logan & taking her to any garage its worth putting issue on this forum.
As car is quiet computerized & Mahindra service centre peoples are unable to understand issues correctly just forcing harsh indian jeep treatment to logan.
So if you want some better treatment to your car get it discussed here. In fact i am sufferer of there service stations( In Pune ,Ahemednagar, PCMT area).
