| Hi all, Recently did a Cochin - Mumbai and back trip on my Logan to attend a wedding. About 1450km trip one-way. Baring the incident mentioned below it was a beauty to ride the entire stretch. Completed 3685Kms the whole trip. A/c was on 90% of the time. Night and early mornings used heater. Got a mileage of 22kmpl for the entire trip and the fuel guage still shows 2 more bars will know more when the fuel indicate glows.
Started at 8:00pm from cochin and reached 6:00pm next day at Pune. It started getting very cold and so switched off the a/c and opened the ventilator. Windows were up though. It was then that we noticed oil burn smell coming. Opened the bonnet and found nothing there but when i checked beneath my Logan, noticed something dripping. The drops were coming down very slowly. I had the mobile# of cochin service person that usually attends my service. He advised against further driving as it could be gear oil leakage. He said something might have hit the shell/case and told to go to the nearest service center. But i don't remember banging my Logan floor anywhere nor stone or anything hitting the floor. The road was very good one NH4 express highway. He said if i continue there will be lot of noise coming from gearbox and finally will get jammed.
There was a petrol pump nearby and he gave me the # to a local service station. But when i went there was no problem and no oil leakage too. He told to continue its probably alright to continue and told me the location to Mahindra service center. There was about 150kms to Pune. No noise change came nor oil burning smell. But i still took it to the service center. They too told boot seal issue and advised changing it and refilling gear oil. Charged me Rs3220 in all for wash and general checkup too.
But on returning from Mumbai to Cochin. I noticed dripping from the same location when i stopped for lunch at Hosur, Banglore when i just casually checked. Fortunately this time my car was parked on the hotel car park and not beside the road as before. I checked the puddle after moving my car. It felt like just water and not oil. I drove on since it was not oil and there was no smell like before coming. After reaching home next day morning i checked my car porch and found the cement floor wet too but not too much and it did seem like oil.
Does a/c water flow out from beneath? Never noticed anything like it before.

| Moisture in the air can get condensed and drip on the floor. It all depends on the humidity level of the air. Quite Possible.

| Hi,
There is a probability that water may be oozing out as the A/C is on... This is Usual.
But if transmission oil is leaking,, thats differnt case... Most probable cause is rubber boot would have teard off. Rubber boot is there between drive shaft and gear box.. It may get teard off, when stone hits on to that.
It happends to me. | |

| Yes AC water accumulates in cabin specially rear left floor. This is very strange that I also noticed in Logan. My Logan's AC outlet pipe was in trouble and i ended up with half a bucket of water inside at rear left floor. | |

| Make sure leaves are not clogging the channels for the water ! I think it runs down the inside of one of the front wings ! Just remove the Plastic filter at the top of the engine cover and clean it out | |

| @kartheeswaran I have got the boot seal replaced.
@Mir its not on the inside but outside beneath the vehicle.
@stu will check the plastic filter this weekend.
I checked and confirmed its from the A/C. It drips only when the A/C is on and not otherwise.

| Then the water around the condenser pipe is being directed outside the car so you are OK its working its when you find wet carpets you worry | |

| Hi stu, Is this the filter one that you had mentioned. This is the left section. On the right section also should there be a similar bush like on the left section? | |

| By the way a Tip from me ! The plastic cage you removed before replacing it get a pair of ladys tights and Put it across the filter ! It keeps all sorts of rubbish out and works great as a filter !!!!! | |

| Hi Stu, Yes, the tights addition does seem a good filter option. But i guess it will be good over there for you where its a lot cooler and must less dusty. Over here its very hot and dusty too and hence the dust that gets into the engine compartment might have a restricted out flow due to the ventilation being reduced. You can make out the difference by comparing our photos. The compartment of your ride is spotless but mine way too dusty. Mine I took the photo after cleaning it. After removing the plastic cover it never seemed to me that it was painted red . I think its not too tough a job to clean it once a year before the monsoon starts. What about rainy season do you have a lot of rain or just drizzles. Here its very heavy and pouring will the water clog and seep into the engine compartment due to the cage being covered. | |

I have also fitter a Fresh air filter from the Clio into the Air Box (the one with the suction motor) it has a space in it which has been left sealed and I cut the piece out and fitted the filter and now when I go on a Long journey I dont have such a dry throat from fumes I think I have put the instructions for that on here PM me your your email and I will send you a photographic instruction for the filter Stu

| Hi Stu, Have sent you a PM with my mailid. Seem I have received your advice on the tights filter at the right time. Our parking space at work is under renovation to add more room. Right now parking is either on the road-side or below the trees. A very good time to try it out.
Thx zaps. | |

| Hi Stu, If it the oil you mean then its no more leaking. The boot seal fix must have been the cause as the service personal identified it. The water dripping from underneath is still there. But i guess it alright as you have said before. And could also confirm its from the A/C as its does not drip if the A/C is OFF.
Thank you. | |

| The one between the drive shaft and the gear box. I was told that the oil that was leaking was from the gear box. | |

| on the wheel end ? or going into the gearbox ! The Boot on the wheel end has no oil whatever in it its just a Joint cover to keep it dry and the Grease in ! But the one on the gearbox side needs the seal changing if it leaks ! and you will need your wheels aligning afterwards ! This is a very special Place for rats I have heard they like to chew them ! We also have an animal in Germany that eats our rubber on our cars One of them ate my brand new spark plug leads and the rubber pipes going to the windscreen washers here is the little Devil | |

| Its on the gear-box end and has been replaced. Didn't do the alignment and they never asked or hinted about it. Mine have a new set of soles (Bridgestone - MY02) just about a month or so old.
Will make a note of it. Thank you.
