Well the guys in the service center used some special glue and fixed the knob. After 2 months its again falling off. Highnoon can you post a picture of the zen knob you have installed will try looking for the same. No point in contacting service center as the last time itself they told me the old knob has stopped coming for putting a new one the complete set has to be changed which will cost 3k. As the new one can't be fitted on the old stick.

Recently My Service Advisor told me that there is a crack in Gear knob and  it will cost me around 2800-3000 to replace it. At the same time, he also told me that I can pull on for some more time in same condition. I don't know whether it is Genuine problem or they are creating it.

Abhay, that is a cool idea but better get it checked again, I am the latest on the list of gear knob going kaput, got it replaced from Mahindra service center for INR 2515+taxes. affraid , actually I was also shocked to know about the knob being so expensive, the service advisor informed me that while replacing it if there is too much of play, the gear change would suffer, I do not know how far of this is true, but if any of you know about this please share.

Hey stu
my Logan's knob is alright but here several having their knob broken
Is it due to heat? I saw in diesel Logan gear knob is quite hot inside leather cover
In my car also gear rod becomes hot after lot of city driving. Is it possible that due to such heating it becomes hard n broking out?

PostSubject: Re: Logan Gear Knob Replacement    Mon Aug 18, 2014 3:16 pm

Quite a few broken knobs!! I had one as well, and thanks to Saumil and the rest here, the pictures and info helped me fix mine by myself. Detailed below are a few of my observations:
I checked with the Renault service centre in Mumbai, total cost for replacement is approx Rs.3300 (which I feel is typical with European cars, they make proprietary designs which can't be replaced with third party products). Next I checked if the Logan knob is available outside, and I did find it with a few dealerships. Cost ranging 1800-2000. Thats still expensive for just a gear knob. So I checked for alternatives, and was informed by a few mechanics that the Swift knob is known to fit in the Logan.
So I bought one (Rs.400 for just knob, Rs.500 for the knob with the Swift sleeve), and fitted it myself. Pics follow.

The Swift knob

The Logan sleeve (black) beside the Swift sleeve (white). This fits over the gear shaft, over which the knob locks in place. Usually it comes off with the knob if you try removing the knob, as is apparent in Saumil's pic below. In which case, you have to tear open the knob to get the sleeve intact.

Both sleeves have similar T shaped splines to lock the knob in place and prevent its rotation. The only difference is the length, the Logan sleeve is longer, the Swift sleeve has a disc at the end, and also a locking groove.

Matching grooves on the inside of the Swift knob

The Swift knob with the mated Logan sleeve, it stays out a little and does not lock in place due to absence of a locking collar.

The rest is easy. Glued the sleeve onto gear shift using Superglue.

Applied a little glue to the opening of the knob to prevent it from coming off and fitted it onto sleeve.

Rolled back the leather cover onto knob end, and voila! Ready for use.

Did not use the Swift sleeve as it is loose over the gear shift. So I guess the inner dia of sleeve does not match the gear shift rod dia, however the Swift gear knob fits snugly over the Logan sleeve, so no play at all. Works well.

Gear knob on my DLS has cracked too.
Where did you get the Logon sleeve from and what was the cost. Did you buy the knob and sleeve from the same place. Cheers.

Hi Prashant, Can you post a pic of the knob as it will help other forum members.
I have seen the Verito Vibe with a black knob. Just curious if it is the same.

Hi
Where can I get the swift sleeve. I enquired at Maruti Spare Parts store, they are saying maruti sells this along with gear lever assembly.
