| Subject: Logan 60000kms report Sat Feb 21, 2009 3:26 pm | |
| Hi everyone! here is a review of our Logan. Exterior: At first i was quite impressed with Logan's looks. . But now it has changed. Logan is now common and its shape has now grown on us. So we started to like it. Now I feel like Logan is not a bad looker.
Interior: The interiors are beige in colour. It gets dirty very quick and needs more attention. Ergonomic wise, the interiors are poor. Front P/W switches on the centre console, rear P/W switches between front seats. The AC controls rotates the other side. The quality is also not great. It rattles a lot(More than my Swift).
Engine and Performance: Logan's engine is strong. After around 10000kms, its engine loses is refinement(and sound changed). The dealer assured us that it is normal. But yes he is correct, the car is now pulling clealy and the FE has improved and no Vibes. We were satisfied with the performance, it has adequate performance which is well suited for our traffic. But on the 4/6 lane roads, it lacks grunt. It is very driveable too. After 50000km, the engine is strong and no drop in power or FE.
Space and Comfort: Probably the best in class with a wide body and generous legroom. This is the only car that is comfortable for me till now. Other wise if I sit front, the person sitting at the back will always complain. But in this, I sit at front adjust the seat and then come back, I still have enough legroom. The rear seat is very wide. The seats are reasonably comfortable(they are flat otherwise best comfort).
Ride, Handling, and Braking: Ride is the best in class for sure. The roads we drive are really bad. It is like it has tiny speed brakers(like waves) and many potholes too. Handling is very grippy. But no serious fun can be had like Swift, because the body leans at curves). Brake has adequate stopping power, but lacks sharp bite. Late braking is better avoided. Stability is rock solid, even at high speeds.
Fuel economy: the Fuel economy of Logan is really good. We are getting 17 kmpl in city circle. 20kmpl at normal highways and 17kmpl on 4 lane highways(speeds of above 120kmph). And a complete rash driving trip yielded a mileage of 14kmpl. All are trip computer details.
Problem's faced: 1.) Body rattle: Due to bad roads, Logan rattles a lot. It rattles more than Swift(Swift rattles only on broken or pothole). Rattle sound has become a part, even in average roads. The service guys arenot able to solve it, very bad. 2.) Low ground clearence: Speed breakers are every where in Coimbatore. Care is needed even for medium sized speed breakers, otherwise you'll here the metal sheet hitting the road. It gets worse when 5 on-board. 3.) ORVM: The Outside Rear View mirrors are too small for visibility. But this is not the problem. The problem is, every time we retract the mirrors, it is so hard and it pops out as if it is going to break and it did. The right side mirror has broken due to this and we had to spend 2500rs, but our driver fixed i with anabond and some screws. Now it is adjustable, but cannot be closed 4) And my main grouse is its service cost. It is damn high. Never got less than 5000rs bill for service. And to my shock, the bill for 60000km service is a whopping 17000rs. Will upload the bill too. The major change is timing belt. But still it is very high.
Other than the service cost, Logan is great. It is an overall good car.

| Considering the 10k kms service interval, rs. 5k or even 8k per service is quite agreeable but 17k rs? Where can i go and hit my head. | |

| 17K is acceptable. Because for 60k kms all service stations do engine treatment. What surprise me is that timing belt change. Because i own scorpio which has 1 lakh kms and we have not changed the timing belt and it needs replacement only by 1.5lakhs | |

What surprise me is that timing belt change. Because i own scorpio which has 1 lakh kms and we have not changed the timing belt and it needs replacement only by 1.5lakhs Engine treatment costs just Rs. 600 and it is not part of service. They asked my dad for it and he agreed for it. It is just an option and can be done at any time. It is just a visual treatment, cleaning everything,etc..

If you analyse the skills of local mechanics with authorised service guys, the local mechanics(not all) will have more skills. The authorised guys just replace the parts and don't have any technical knowledge(may be one or two will have). If you ask for explanation, they will blabber some thing. Mechanics can repair the parts very well and fix anything. But perfection is missing with them. They won't replae fuel filter and will just clean it. But if you find a mechanic with the perfection, then no authorised service station can satisfy you.

| In Germany there is a Newspaper called Autobild and they take a car with built in faults every week to different Garages around Germany from FORD up to MERCEDES  these faults are things like not enough pressure in the spare wheel and also they check to see if the Plugs and filters are NEW dead light bulbs clutch play also the coolant levels or a loose wheel nut. Then they write a report about all the differnt garages and how they got on (They take the car to 6 or 7 garages ) in the month ..lets say it Mercedes that are due this month .then they write a report on what they missed and what they got right and even test the friendlyness of the staff and how many Kilometers it was roadtested .Get your Newspaper to try this out .The garages are so frightened now that the quality has risen  | |

| The parts price are from - http://www.mahindrarenault.com/logan_partsprice_diesel.html But why they have done timing set, it is the costliest work among all.... infact it is now costing around 6800 (as per parts price listed at Bhasin motors service center). And I tell you guys these prices are which are given on website and in your bill are now increased by around 20 - 50% (as per parts price listed at Bhasin motors service center) Diesel Fuel Filter is now - Rs. 1599 Air Filter is now - Rs. 397 Oil Filter is now Rs. 204 Timing Belt is now Rs. 1699 (all thes prices are excluding VAT and service tax) I dont know why the hell these parts price are so high and yes labour is damn costly, even fitting a front grill is around Rs. 650 which takes around half an hour only. A funny situation I faced - my silver coloured trim just above glove box, the space for keeping handy items (I dont what to call it) got cracked and when I tried to changed at service center, they told me it will cost around 2000 Rs. because they need to open dashboard at labour cost of Rs. 1500 + 350 is trims price + vat + tax ---- what a silly method of fitting a small trim. (I used FeviQuick and fixed for now) | |

| http://www.mahindrarenault.com/logan_partsprice_petrol.html Thats a link to a parts pricing list and its a lot cheaper then the other makes WOW I see a massive difference . to answer your Question though Yes Renault are known over here to "Cut Corners" and miss out parts of the servicing and charge you for the work this is a worldwide problem .As long as people are greedy we will always have to be Vigilant ok here is a Tip put a spot of paint on the whit part of the sparkplugs and if its still there when you pick up the car BINGO they didnt change them also do the same to the Filter (They sometimes just clean them !!) and also the oil release plug you could put a big dollop of grease on it and then see if its still there ! its worth it have a try you guys take a prepaired LOGAN for its 20000 | |

| Another problem now . One day headlamp failed to turn off, the light was ON and other than that nothing worked. The stalk felt like dead. Yesterday, Logan went for 70000km service, they asked us to replace entire unit and it costed Rs. 4200(before taxes). The bill was above Rs. 15000(will update the exact value by tomorrow). Every part's price is very high, even higher than price mentioned on official website. Our love for Logan has started to fade with the bad service experience of Logan. After all the high amount, the job done is not satisfactory. The headlight is very poor, wiper doesn't clean properly, rattles like hell,etc.. I'd like to make clear to all those who seeks to buy Logan, better stay off it. You can get an expensive car with less mileage and better features and looks, because Logan's service cost will equalize that. You can buy a Fiesta, which now comes with maintenance warranty like Chevy and it costs around rs. 9000 for the basic plan (2 years/ 40000kms) | |
