It is ABSOLUTELY Must! You can live without it only for a year since purchase. Later, you've to keep getting it checked. Moreover, it also works as a Diagnostic! If your car is giving out more smoke than permitted, there is a Problem with the engine or some mechanism so you need to get it checked!

Saumil for new vehicle without PUC only for 6 months not for one year .Both diesel and petrol have same period of time.If any vehicle completed six months pls take one it is better because unnecessary tension on the road at the time of checking.

@ Prasad,

Having a valid PUC is mandatory according to our laws. New vehicles as mentioned above by Saumil and Thomas are valid only for 6 months.
Thereupon you will have to get it cheked regularly (once in 6 months) and carry the same in your car.

Diesel Logan owners may however have to shell out more than the petrol ones as the fee is similar to that of trucks and buses.

My PUC certificate expired on 15th Oct 2010. Surprisingly, the pollution check centres which are enroute my home or office (about 5 of them) are saying that they cannot do the check for a Diesel Car. Its now 2 months that I'm running without a PUC certificate.

Any such info from other loganizers in Bangalore?
