| I started noticing this issue on my Logan (1.5 Dlx) from May this year. When driving on highways, if I passed beyond say 100kmph, let off the accelerator and then pressed again to increase speed, it would create a sort of Grinding/Growling noise.
Initialy it was very mild and hardly noticeable. But in my recent road trip to Hogenakkal & Yercaud, the problem seemed to aggrevate. To an extent that it started irritating every time is tried to push her hard.
Initially I felt the problem to be only in the 5th gear, but later I realised it could occur even in th 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear.
I also tried slowing down to 75-80 before accelerating again and then the power would go seemless till 140 kmph bu then if i'd let it my leg ease off for a while and try to go again, it would recur.
I called my service advisor while on the drive and though he could not relate to any problem seen hitherto, he recommended to send the vehicle for service at the earliest.
My initial guess is that it could be a problem of the clutch wear. I tried depressing the clutch and mate again to check if it wuld help and it did in most of the occassions I tried. Am sending my vehicle for service tomorrow.
BTW, the part price for a clutch & pressure plate is mentioned as 3359/- as per Autocar Survey July 2010.
I also read in certain other forums that it could be a problem with worn our final drive shaft / differential. (the words used there seemed scary)
Any information in the meantime will be helpful.

| Do you have a Turbocharger on your Diesel Engine ?? If so I would try and have it checked if it is worn then It will make all sorts of noises and like you said on revving up and letting off the Gas Drive shafts only make a noise when worn on cornering and its not a Growling noise it is more of a Humming noise .It will not either be the Clutch if you are getting to speeds of 140 KMH without slip then its ok .I would go for TURBO problems all TURBOs Whisle but they dont Growl and crunch have a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqxJ5FyxbDQ hope this helps a bit
Check round the TURBO for oil leaks

| I had been to my service center today morning to discuss the issue personally with my service advisor. He assured me of a proper solution.
At 1400 Hrs (now) I got a call from him. He stated that the EGR Valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) was choked and needed cleaning. This was preventing a proper flow of EG to spin the turbo, thereby causing the grinding noise and no change in speed.
Additionally, he also mentioned that the brake pads needed a replacment. He said that the brake pads of the Logan now-a-days are lasting only about 15k-20k kms. My last replacement was @ 22k kms. The car is now at 38k kms.
The car is gonna come back today evening.

| Surya, Do not change the Brakepads without examining them yourself. I guess you are knowledgeable enough to gauge the damage yourself. Only Kms cannot decide the damage. Different people have different driving habits so watch the damage yourself before getting them replaced. | |

Check them yourself mate donĀ“t let them do it .In Fact changing the Brake Pads is so easy you could do it yourself These are like yours now look and learn and save some money you Guys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMsahn1HqXM

| So here's the bill. Paid service @ 38k kms. Total 9200/- Brake pads were replaced as I could not go to the service center. Old ones are with me and and are still worth another 5-8k kms. Called the service guy and gave him a piece of my mind | |

| @Stu As I mentioned the pads will last another 8000kms All my previous bills are of similar nature where they have charged for consumables and sandpaper.
Clutch wire was changed on my request as the movement had become very hard inspite of the required greasing in last service. There is apparently some issue with the initial lots of the clutch cables making them hard. After the change, the feel is now as close to my small petrol car at home.
Wheels were balanced as I had uneven wear in the front 2 tires (outer edges) and I asked them to do a 4 tire rotation.
But I do agree on the fact that Mahindra should be monitoring these things like charging separately for sand papers when there is already a component of consumables @ 300/-.
