| Subject: Coolant problem.. Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:20 pm | |
| Yesterday morning my wife inadvertently left the headlights ON (for about 4-5 hours).. Yesterday evening I could see the battery indicator showing "recharge". And when I switched On the ignition there was absolutely no response (no display, no visible or audible alarm, no indicators flashing, and of course power windows not working). The car went completely cold.. So I called the Exide toll free number and they came and started my car with another battery.
However, within 10 minutes I could see smoke coming out from under the bonnet. When I opened the bonnet I could see that the coolant was boiling and under high pressure inside the coolant chamber. The coolant was coming out from the lid with great force. I immediately switched OFF the ignition. After some time I tried to open the lid of the coolant chamber.. Again it started boiling and coming out under high pressure.
I am wondering whether headlights ON for 4-5 hours can drain the battery completely or not (I have posted this query in a different thread)... or there is any other major problem.
I had got my car serviced about 3 months back..
I have now called Mahindra helpline and they have assured that some one will call me and attend my vehicle.
Anyone with similar experience earlier..?
My car has completed 11500 km without any problem

| It is weird. I guess the headlights and battery have a connection but the coolant and the temperature should have nothing to do with the Lights left on.. Do let us know when you get a resolution. | |

I also find it weird.. They may have no connection at all.. it may be pure coincidence that both occurred at the same time. Yesterday I called up G3 motors in Nerul (I get my car serviced there) .. The service guy advised me to fill up the radiator with water and turn the engine ON and look for any abnormalities. Any prior experience with filling the engine radiator with water? and I was told to fill the radiator with water and not the tank (where one checks the coolant level). I am not able to locate the opening of the radiator coz I have never done this before... Any suggestions.. | |

| #1 Headlights and battery have nothing to do with the cooling system
#2 You can only fill the cooling system through the header tank
#3 Your Mechanic is a Pratt !!!!!
---------------------------------------------------
I would have the thermostat checked to see if it opening and I would also check that the Cylinder head gasket has not blown !!!!!!!!! just look at the water for oil traces and also look at the oil filler cap for a white milky substance and once again your Mechanic should go to MacDonaldś and sell Hamburgers | |

| The engine cooling fan does not work. That causes the heating problem. But the fan starts working as soon as I switch ON the AC. So I drove the car today to the workshop with the AC on. The car is still there.

This guy kept on insisting (on the phone) that I should fill my car radiator with water but I should not fill it through the coolant expansion tank (or header tank). My car will attended to at the service center by more qualified staff. | |

| Today I got my car back. The mechanic said that probably rats had cut through some wires due to which the fan was not working properly. They have also topped up the coolant level.
There is one thing I am still not sure about. I see a fan behind the radiator. I see the fan start (with the ignition ON) as soon as I switch on the AC. The fan does not start by itself when the ignition is ON (and the AC is OFF). Is this normal? The service center guys told me that this is normal. But I wanted to confirm from others also...

| I own a Logan DLX 1.5 which is four and half years old driven a little over 52k Kms. A month ago my car was hit by a speed breaker from the bottom. There were 5 adults sitting in the car and it was slightly over weight due to which it probably hit the speed breaker though I feel the ground clearance is decent. On reaching home I just wanted to ensure if everything was all right. I drove my car about 5 Kms from the spot where I hit the breaker.
When I checked the bottom of the car to my surprise I saw oil spilling from all over the engine. I also checked the bonnet and found out that the coolant tub was completely black with oil. Since it was night I called up the helpline nos the next day and the car was towed away to a authorised service centre.
I also called up the insurance agent for a urgent survey which happened the next day. I got a shock of my life when the authorised service centre said that there is a major problem in the engine where oil and water has mixed and that has nothing to do with the speed breaker hit. Another shock was that Renault does not permit Engine overhauling and it needs to be replaced.
I had heated arguments with everyone in the service centre but in vain. I then decided to take the vehicle to a garage owner whom I knew well. On checking the engine thoroughly, it was told to me that nothing is wrong in the engine and we need not even open the engine. I just replaced a part called Engine Oil cooler which I managed to procure from Mahindra after writing them mails after mails complaining about the dealer and his competency to handle such complaints. | |

| I had this Happen in my Rover 2800 once the oil cooler was inside in the water cooler and something blew I had oil in the water and it was blowing out everywhere due to the pressure it was fixed and the engine was cleaned and worked ok
Now to Renault not being able to overhaul engines tell that is a load of Bollocks (sorry) ! you can overhaul a Renault motor and whoever told you this is talking out of his Ar** show them this post if you want ....................MAN some firms lie through there teeth to get someone to buy stuff look here if you need some spares http://www.asianproducts.com/hotproduct/manufacturer_dacia-logan-gasket_1.htm | |
