I got an Alto transfered from Delhi to Pune.
The NOC is of course very important. It's the usual form filling in triplicate kind of procedure. Make sure you get the name of the two RTOs right.
We then applied for the Pune registration. It took us about two and half months to get the procedure done. You have to file all sorts of forms.. and there are a number of them. Then they send a letter to the RTO from where the vehicle is being transfered, for authenticating all the information (Inspite of the NOC ).
Now as per the rules they have to wait for their reply to proceed further. Some RTOs send the letter back diligently , some don't !. There's a bunch of letter that comes back from all these RTOs every few days...we had to help them search for ours. After a certain waiting period you have to coax them to go ahead without a return reply, if you don't get one.
The process is then taken forward. One has to pay the transfer fee and the one time State Road tax
again (which is calculated on the
original invoice of the vehicle purchase, after depreciation ). We got conflicting views of getting the road tax back from the previous RTO. We haven't got our's back.
In all we spent close to Rs 20,000/-
We also had to go and get a clearence from the Pune police comissioner's office, which is again a mandatory procedure. They issue the new Registration number only after that.
Finally one has to take the vehicle to the local passing RTO and get the vehicle registered. The whole process is like dealing with any other Govt' office ! It' s an amazing experience when things actually start moving !!!
Agents quoted around Rs 30,000/- for the job.. so we did it ourselves !
The experience is going to build strength , character, grit, determination and, negociation skills
Oh! and .. the vehicle was my wife's before marriage.... so the change in name after marriage almost made us loose the match in the final over.... I had to run home to get the
ORIGINAL marriage certificate and literally beg the officer not to make us go through the paperwork again... !!!!!
AND if you want the card type RC, make a fresh application. It can't be done in the same process !!!! I DON'T WANT A CARD TYPE RC !!
So ... have fun!!
