Future of MR-Logan in the coming years !!

Hello Friends,

I am a new bee to this forum.Was browsing extensively over the net to get review of MR-Logan and came across this forum.
As i was planning to get a new car i had filtered out these options - Logan and Dzire which fitted in my budget.
But going through lot of reviews over the net created a lot of hesitancy in my mind for both options.

Let me put my queries to youall in this way....

As far as Logan is concencered it is my first options in preference.
the pros being the VFM car and it being spacious and comfortable.
But i seriously doubt how lasting will be the JV between Mahindra and Renault. The product seems to be going through a sluggish phase and nothing seems to be clear about the future of this product.
I wonder down the line in a year or 2 if it closes down how would logan owners manage getting spares and other utilities which is already scarse due to limited service networks.

I thourougly pitty how such a gud car's image is tarnished by such not so willfully handled management by the JV. (Guys no harsh intensions i m just being practicle to the facts)

I still m keen in getting a Logan though coz i feel its practically a very good car no matter dezire score over it in some ascpects.

I would be greatly thankfull if some of uall could suggest if it would be worth going for a logan looking at the current scenario of JV.

Also would like to knw how well is the resale value of Logan.

First of all its good to know that you have considered Logan as an option.

I want to try giving you some answers. Also please keep in mind that these are my personal readings, hence do not take them to be official statements.

- About the JV: It is definitely not going to close down. Spare parts shall be available. No doubt about it. Also to let you know Logan does not have any out of this world special part fitted. Logan is a car built on previous success stories of Renault and Nissan. All of Logan parts come from those successful models. Both Mahindra and Renault have spent huge sums of money behind all this and can not be just to shut it down.

- About Not Properly Managing: Again here there is a mix feeling. Some are highly satisfied with after sales network while some have huge issues. So feelings are spread across two extremes. I personally believe such experiences exist with any model. There are so many stories where people are not satisfied with their experience at Ford or Hyundai or Tata or even Marutis. This can not be a sole deciding factor.

- Current Scenario: Well purchasing or not purchasing is a personal decision. Mileage i guess both Logan and Dzire give almost the same.
Below are some points that will help you further decide.
* Do you want a luxurious sedan which can comfortably accomodate 5 adults and a kid too.
* Are you looking for non contemporary looks and features e.g. DIS, power windows & central locking at central console, metal guard beneath the engine bonnet etc. which sets this vehicle far apart.
* Do you want to be able to travel with loads of luggage in boot
* Most importantly do you want a Renault.
* Do you want something that is available in most of Europe, some parts of Middle East, entire South Africa , South America and now India. This boasts of product experience in itself. This is a global product.

- Resale Value:
As such i discovered that cars be it anything on indian market do not have that good resale values. I have a friend with Indigo LS which he got for 5.5 lacs on road before 3 years. Today he is getting 2 lacs for it. I have another acquantaince who bought a 4 year old Honda Accord for 6 lacs. Imagine the first hand price of honda Accord. Now Honda by no means is a company which deserves such a low second price. But thats how it works.
I guess for a 1 year old 1.4 GLX Logan that costed 5.25 lacs on road one can expect around 3 lacs at end of that 1 year period.
But yes Maruti vehicles have got better resale value. This is a fact and this has happened because Maruti has created such a resale market for themselves. Maruti is the legacy tradition that has been around in market since almost 20 years now.
So if you are worried too much about resale value in short term of somehting around 1 to 2 years span you must go for a Maruti.
But then initial Capex in Dzire would be definitely more than a 1.4 GLX Logan. So all in all I dont know what difference does a higher resale value on Maruti exactly means.

I am also new to this site and i booked my Logon very recently awaiting th delivery this week. Before booking i went thru many posts and reviews and finally hit my hammer on the Logon...

The reason ... great value for money.... when you consider all aspects and as a package Logon gives you more than what you are paying for...
Further, since Mahindra are involved, i dont think that they will allow closing down the JV completely else their name will be at stake..

Logon being Europeon, is a very sturdy car like any other europeon cars and you can bet on it.. Except for the resale value it has got everything.. from mileage, to space, to dependability etc.

So Go ahead and book your logon........

@Mir - Your reply was very helpfull in my deciding abt going for logan.i understd the fact tht there's always pros and cons on any available product its just to decide which suits our requirements the best.I think i got a got a better oportunity in clearing my doubt abt futures abt logan jv by posting it here as this forum is specifically intended for ppl who own or are willing to be in the logan club.

I too have booked a test drive for logan and the guy wud turn up today anytime in afternoon and if all goes well i too wud intend to book it very soon.

Guys Hows service provided by NBS International Limited (Mahindra Delear- Mumbai)? Do any of uall have any prior experience in dealing wid them...Also would like to knw which dealer wud be better preffered in Mumbai for getg logan.

Also if some of uall who can share some info and wht all things to be taken care of while dealing wid dealer on buying and finalising things..
probably a detailed checklist would b greatly helpfull.
(wouldn't mind if you refer to earlier posted links as well.)

First and most important thing you would want is reliable dealer with whom you would be purchasing from.

Once the dealer is fine rest all shall be OK and on time.

See what freebies are being offered. Like floor mats, mud guards, boot carpet mat etc. Freebies vary from dealer to dealer.

Do post pics of your Logan if you get one.

I booked my car with G3 Motors.. Not a very pleasant experience. They come to know of what is happening very late in the MR front..
In my case, i came to know thru some source that MR are releasing a face lift logon which they were not aware whereas other dealers confirmed.

This Sunday Global Galleria called up and confirmed that the new facelift logon is under display at their Thane showroom.. whereas G3 said they have no face lift model for display..

None of the dealers are offering any freebies since some sort cartel is going on and the discout is controlled by MR.

If you are staying in South Mumbai or in central Mumbai you may book thru NBS since their service center is at Reay road..
or Global galleria if central suburb.

In the new model "Logon - Refresh", they have added a very small rear spoiler without light, front fog lamp masking, embelliser in the rear boot and changes in the rear view mirror. Dealer Global gallerie called up and confirmed that they have displalyed this new car in their thane showroom and this expected for delivery by Navratri.

I just had a test drive of Logan 1.4 GLX. NBS had called up and i booked the test drive.
Overall i was satistifed with the performance of the car.
I did enquire a lot of details with the NBS sales guy some of which i'll summarize below.

1. I asked him if there's any face lift version coming up .
-- To this the sales guy was blank as he didnt hv any idea abt any face lift version coming up. I did mention him tht there had been news of this and now this also confirmed by Krishna's post tht there is some facelift version which all delears are not aware of.

2. I asked if there's any scheme or discount offers going on.
-- he confirmed tht there's 40k off on the GLX 1.4 and i jotted down all the details and he said tht an approx ON ROAD price for same would come somewhere around 5.4 lacs.

3. I did clarify with him abt the uncertainity of logan model production and the support of spares n all.
-- To this the guy mentioned tht there are some norms which the company has to follow and its bound to an agreement tht even if the production stops on any model it has to provide the spares for 15 years.
(Now i really hv no clue to wht extent this is true).

After all this m still willing to go for one more test drive and would also confirm regarding the New facelift varient. If any of uall get any updates abt it do post it.

@Krishna ..please try posting the pics. I'll try to get in touch wid Global gallerie as well regarding the New varient.
