i don't have DIS sysytem in my care. i always take average by tank full method. for 273 kms it took 15 lts. comes to 18.2kmpl. my knfilter was a bit clogged on which i drived around 80 kms. then i removed the knfilter for cleaning , replaced with the renault filter and drived for rest 200 odd kms. can rmoval of knfilter be the cause.

For those who think Renault says ELF and Maximile is ELF cobrand then sorry guys All MAXIMILE engine oils are made by INDIAN OIL and they are pure DESI.

Also you cant bring your own oil (eg castrol, mobile 1 etc) to service center becuase they simply refuse to use that and each time you change oil you need to change oil filter as well, which will be available at service centers only.

I have also noticed that engine oil and fuel filters used for Logan in service centers are not brand new but they use recycled old ones which they collect each time from your cars.

I checked mine and it doesnt look new from any angle, as the alluminium casing has lot of makrs and renault name was almost faded, clearly shows a recycled one and they charge 1400 for fuel filter.

I would suggest all to retain removed fule and engine oil filter.

PostSubject: Re: Engine Oil   Engine Oil - Page 2 Icon_minitimeThu Apr 21, 2011 1:09 pm

Since I have shifted to Lucknow, So this time I serviced my car at a new service center in Lucknow, UP and I tell you they didnt know much about technicals, I spent whole day over there and most of the time I had to tell them to do this and that.

Changed disc breakpads - cost 1400

No major spare parts available including a simple clutch wire. Also I was surprised to see as they dont charge 1000 as service labour but different charges for different work, which makes even more including separate for washing etc.

Total Service Cost was about 5200/-

I cant understand why companies like Mahindra is not serious about quality of job done and customer satisfaction, from the very begining they are nailing Logan coffin slowly, continues even after they are 100% owner this model.

@nayan & saumil - spares I do take but did you ever try to take those filters with you?

What is the engine oil to be used in Logan diesel? I mean the specification? is it better to change it at Mahindra service center or outside? or Can I do it at home?

My engine feels rough and it is currently 11200 kms on the odo and there is 2.5 months before my third free service. Second service was done @ 6000 kms or so..

You can avail the free service earlier than the schedule. Or go to the authorized service station to have the engine checked for the roughness you feel.
typically you would want to
1) clean the air filter
2) inspect /drain water from the diesel filter element
3) change engine oil and filter
4) clean the AC condenser fins
5) lubricate the handbrake cable
6) check all the wheels , brakes for free rotation.
7) check the cat con / silencer for excessive carbon - clean.
mostly this would help.
As far as oil is concerned , if u dont want to stick with the mahindra maximile you can use any API CH + AND above rated oil ( CI / CJ ) 15 W - 40 grade.
1) Shell Helix HX6
2) sERVO Futura D
3) mOBIL DELVAC mx / super 1300
4) Castrol GTX diesel

I believe its 'TOTAL' now. Elf brand is available in cf4 grade and is also used in authorized service stations. damn good oil co.. Used it extensively in my accent ( elf sporti ) it was called if i am not mistaken.
Now retails under TOTAL , FRance banner. Elf almost vanished from retail stores in mumbai.

@Ezee - I just bought a set of brake pads for my Logan in Lucknow yesterday for Rs 750. Changed them myself. You mentioned a price of Rs 1400 for the same.

The diesel filter was Rs 1000 and the Oil filter was Rs 180. And yes - genuine spares are available in the open market. You don't need to buy them from the A.S.S.

Where do you get your car serviced - do re-look the sourcing for the parts. You seem to be paying too much.

The Chinese have flooded the Market with cheap (inferior) parts and Brake pads are also one of them ! They look so real but beware of Brake fade !

cheap inferior or downright duplicate ?.
see i got my logan rims shimmed and changed my original pads ( when they had worn out ) to bosch made ones. my braking immediately regressed and it started feeling downright scary as these new pads were not offering any bite whatsoever. ran on these for some time and then repalced the pads with FBX made ones. braking improved immediately.
the bosch ones were not wearing out at all. hardly any carbon after a month of use .
would this be a case of duplicate pads ?

Yes it is correct. AS per the service book, the period for changing the engine oil is 5000 kms.But the service personnel saying that it is 10000 kms that's what just contradictory to what written in the service book.

During last service, I changed the engine oil and they charged @Rs.1000 per liter. I had spent RS.4000 for the engine oil only. It is said to be synthetic oil. But I haven't noticed any changes in engine performance. The service person said that then the engine oil changing period is 30000 kms or 18 months which ever is earlier.

There is always a big debate about synthetic and mineral oils. Personally i have not noticed any change in the engine performance because of synthetic oil. Maybe it works silently without any noticable change Laughing
