| I am having a problem with the rear light that is supposed to come on when I put the car into reverse. The light does not go on, but I know that the bulb is still good. The problem is with something called the "Sonda de marsarier" (in Romanian) - I even have the part! I have found information saying that this is a common problem, and that fixing it should be very fast. I am supposed to look "near the gear box". This makes sense - the problem is not with the bulb, but with the connection between the electric circuits under the hood when I shift into reverse.
I have looked and looked, but I cannot find where to replace this part. I also cannot find what the part is called in English or French - the best translation I have is "probe to the reverse".
Can anyone give detailed instructions about where I need to look to replace this part? Even better, are there any photos or drawings online that might show what I need to know?
Thanks in advance, MB | |

| "Sonda de marsarier" (in Romanian)---> Google Translate--->"Probe to the reverse" (in English)
To access the gear control, most probably you need to get under the vehicle and cut throught the exhaust manifold to get to the gear control box. https://i.servimg.com/u/f67/12/17/44/51/gettin10.jpg And I have gone through all the various manuals and haven't fet found that section that would deal with the switch that would activate the reversing lamp!

| Thanks, Tomlai. The diagram you linked to shows exactly the right part. Now I need the snow to melt so that it is dry enough to get under the car and see if I can change it. | |

| Well, we've located the part, but the reverse light still does not work. To get to the part, you need to remove the front wheel on the driver's side, and also remove a plastic wall that covers the wheel well. The part is clipped to a little blue plastic coupling that contains a few wires, just above the axle. Unclipping the coupling involves pressing down with a screw driver on the area at the bottom, closest to the engine. Then you need to unscrew the part with a wrench, from a very odd angle, with about 1/2 cm motions. Once you get the part off, oil comes gushing out the hole that it occupied. So you need a pan under the car, and you need to plug the hole with a cloth while you exchange the parts. Then you need to get the new piece into the hole and make tiny motions to screw it back in, then clip in the wiring again. We did all that, and now neither reverse light works (before the problem was just one reverse light). So we know that we've isolated the problem, but the issue was not actually the part, because we tested the old part with a multimeter and it seems to be fine. Next step is to diagnose the wiring | |

| Would it not be easier to take it to your Garage and have it fixed on Garantee?? if you keep on playing around you will LOSE the Garantee and dont forget to put the oil back in the Gearbox or the car wont even GO backwards never mind no reversing lights Stu | |

| There is no guarantee - the car is more than 3 years old, bought in Romania and currently garaged in Switzerland. We're taking it to the garage tomorrow for other issues, but we thought we'd try fixing it ourselves first because the Renault dealer wants a fortune to do a five minute fix.
Question - where does one access the reservoir for oil for the gear box?

| It is quite normal to fill the gearbox through the side you should find a plug somewhere .....then you fill it till it pours out the same hole Stu | |

| I brought the car to the garage, and they fixed the problem quickly.
But you want to know the funny thing? There never was a problem! Unlike every other car on the planet, the Logan ONLY HAS ONE REVERSE LIGHT, on the passenger side.
So, for 5 months we have been trying to figure out how to fix a light that was never broken, because it never existed. Somehow, this vital nugget of information never came up in any of the conversations we've had with mechanics, fellow Logan owners, Romanian relatives, or in Google searches.
Oh well. At least we learned some things about our car in the process.

| what we (in another thread) had called an innovation (wrt to one reverse light on the left and the one reverse fog light on the right) has made all of us fret and smile at the same time... its nice to see that we are all appreciating the funny side of it... cheers! | |
