As per the study conducted on B Sedan customers (by a reputed agency) one of the prime reason why people rejected the Logan is the Taxi image, which they did not want to get associated with.
In some way, this definitely makes sense. MR pushed logan into the taxi segment as their expectations of sales in the first year were very high and the Logan dint pick up that well, so taxi was an obvious route which would help garner volumes and liquidate stocks.
Toyota stopped the qualis production for quite a few reasons. Yes, the image of a taxi was definitely one of them. They were ok with having a premium taxi image, not the call-center taxi / cabbie image.

Toyota Kirloskar stopped Qualis because they would most likely have felt Toyota's name getting tagged as a taxi... The Qualis was stopped because its a generation 3 vehicle. They could have easily tinkered with the engine and brought it on par with Euro 3 norms. But the vehicle has been doing duty for more than 20 years or so. They are not worried about the vehicle being used as taxis. The Innova is a generation 5 vehicle. They skipped one generation when they brought in a replacement for the Qualis. Again, as mentioned earlier, if one finds a vehicle extensively used as taxi, please take it for granted that the vehicle is a tried and tested one.

| Theres nothing wrong in a car being used as a taxi! World Over, good comfortable, economically viable cars are Taxis! I went to Singapore and i was in a New Brand Toyota Corolla, in Dubai it was a New Toyota Camry and to top it all, in Las Vegas, i sat in a HUMMER Taxi!
Chill guys.. Nothing wrong in it!

| hi people i have been running a purple logan at kochi since the last two months and have clocked 2000 km. in fact, i dropped my gaadi for her first free service this morning.
I quite agree with this taxi image being an hindrance for the buyer.. In fact, when i say that i own a logan, i get a weird " what do you think you were up to" look..
In Kerala especially, where people are image conscious ( the number of Big cars like the Honda city is very high) - the taxi image means a strict no no for logan. especially the white... reminds you of the Meru cabs.
The purple is a definite plus in that angle.

| there is nothing like TAXI IMAGE... this is nonsense stuff. not beacause i am Logan owner but because of the fact that world over i have seen all brands Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, GM, Ford, Renault, Mercedes, BMW and almost all rest being used for comfortable public transport. Anything that is reliable, safe and comfortable automatically qualifies for public transportation. Many countries just dont think economy while deciding their public transport vehicle. | |

| I agree with Mir... these days almost all brands are being used as taxis. One can find Innovas, Fords, Scodas, Hondas etc being used to ferry employees. Also If one looks at a vehicle like the TATA Sumo. It was used a lot as taxis, but lot of people also bought it as a family vehicle. It didn't provide much by way of comfort or refinement... but some people liked to own the car... it was a no-frills, strongly built, spacious vehicle. I still feel, besides other reasons, the marketing pitch for the Logan has always been wrong here. | |

http://indianautosblog.com/2009/12/skoda-plans-low-cost-sedan-targets-daciarenault-logan Why would someone want to target a supposedly failed model?? EDIT: Ok.. they are talking about this happening in Europe. But in India skoda is not a value player and wants to push itself as a premium brand. What will they do here?

| Birth of Indigo CS as per my understanding was due to Logan. Tata already had Indigo. Then why CS? Skoda also may bring low cost Sedan to india. Why not? Premium brand concept is fine and agreeable but then all players want to pitch in at least one low cost model. | |

Even the Swift dZire Today i spotted atleast 10 Manza in Bangalore and thats quite a decent number for a new launch. To me it looked a straight competition for the Logan Mahindra... you got a big catch-up to do

| Resale price of Logan is dropped further, now: My 2 year old 20K driven DLS (on road 700000) in excellent condition is going out at just 3.25 L Where as at same specs Fiesta is 4.50 L and Verna at 5.00 L | |

| Please check the price of the Fiesta 2 years ago and also of the Verna. They were both costlier than the Logan. Logan's DLS would match Fiesta/Verna's Base/Mid model.
And, 1 piece of advice, if u intend to sell it, sell it now cause any cars value will only depreciate day by day and if you dont intend to sell, why keep cribbing?

| If you take care of the vehicle properly it will comfortably do 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 kms. If such is the lifetime of the engine and if you are getting a decent average why are you thinking about selling it? If you are not comfortable with the vehicle its better to sell it. As mentioned earlier I still haven't come across a Logan sitting in a used cars showroom. To me that conveys something. | |
