PostSubject: Logan 60000kms report   Sat Feb 21, 2009 1:56 pm

Hi everyone! here is a review of our Logan.
Exterior:
At first i was quite impressed with Logan's looks. . But now it has changed. Logan is now common and its shape has now grown on us. So we started to like it. Now I feel like Logan is not a bad looker.

Interior:
The interiors are beige in colour. It gets dirty very quick and needs more attention. Ergonomic wise, the interiors are poor. Front P/W switches on the centre console, rear P/W switches between front seats. The AC controls rotates the other side. The quality is also not great. It rattles a lot(More than my Swift).

Engine and Performance:
Logan's engine is strong. After around 10000kms, its engine loses is refinement(and sound changed). The dealer assured us that it is normal. But yes he is correct, the car is now pulling clealy and the FE has improved and no Vibes. We were satisfied with the performance, it has adequate performance which is well suited for our traffic. But on the 4/6 lane roads, it lacks grunt. It is very driveable too. After 50000km, the engine is strong and no drop in power or FE.

Space and Comfort:
Probably the best in class with a wide body and generous legroom. This is the only car that is comfortable for me till now. Other wise if I sit front, the person sitting at the back will always complain. But in this, I sit at front adjust the seat and then come back, I still have enough legroom. The rear seat is very wide. The seats are reasonably comfortable(they are flat otherwise best comfort).

Ride, Handling, and Braking:
Ride is the best in class for sure. The roads we drive are really bad. It is like it has tiny speed brakers(like waves) and many potholes too. Handling is very grippy. But no serious fun can be had like Swift, because the body leans at curves). Brake has adequate stopping power, but lacks sharp bite. Late braking is better avoided. Stability is rock solid, even at high speeds.

Fuel economy:
the Fuel economy of Logan is really good. We are getting 17 kmpl in city circle. 20kmpl at normal highways and 17kmpl on 4 lane highways(speeds of above 120kmph). And a complete rash driving trip yielded a mileage of 14kmpl. All are trip computer details.

Problem's faced:
1.) Body rattle:
Due to bad roads, Logan rattles a lot. It rattles more than Swift(Swift rattles only on broken or pothole). Rattle sound has become a part, even in average roads. The service guys arenot able to solve it, very bad.
2.) Low ground clearence:
Speed breakers are every where in Coimbatore. Care is needed even for medium sized speed breakers, otherwise you'll here the metal sheet hitting the road. It gets worse when 5 on-board.
3.) ORVM:
The Outside Rear View mirrors are too small for visibility. But this is not the problem. The problem is, every time we retract the mirrors, it is so hard and it pops out as if it is going to break and it did. The right side mirror has broken due to this and we had to spend 2500rs, but our driver fixed i with anabond and some screws. Now it is adjustable, but cannot be closed
4) And my main grouse is its service cost. It is damn high. Never got less than 5000rs bill for service. And to my shock, the bill for 60000km service is a whopping 17000rs. Will upload the bill too. The major change is timing belt. But still it is very high.

Other than the service cost, Logan is great. It is an overall good car.

Yeah paid the same. And the bill was 8k for most of them. If this continues, then no one can save Logan.

Considering the 10k kms service interval, rs. 5k or even 8k per service is quite agreeable but 17k rs? Where can i go and hit my head.

17K is acceptable. Because for 60k kms all service stations do engine treatment.
What surprise me is that timing belt change. Because i own scorpio which has 1 lakh kms and we have not changed the timing belt and it needs replacement only by 1.5lakhs

after having a look at the bill, i think it will be far better to get the free servicing from mahindra and then the paid servicing from local garages.....

Engine treatment costs just Rs. 600 and it is not part of service. They asked my dad for it and he agreed for it. It is just an option and can be done at any time. It is just a visual treatment, cleaning everything,etc..

If you analyse the skills of local mechanics with authorised service guys, the local mechanics(not all) will have more skills. The authorised guys just replace the parts and don't have any technical knowledge(may be one or two will have). If you ask for explanation, they will blabber some thing. Mechanics can repair the parts very well and fix anything. But perfection is missing with them. They won't replae fuel filter and will just clean it. But if you find a mechanic with the perfection, then no authorised service station can satisfy you.

In Germany there is a Newspaper called Autobild and they take a car with built in faults every week to different Garages around Germany from FORD up to MERCEDES  these faults are things like not enough pressure in the spare wheel and also they check to see if the Plugs and filters are NEW dead light bulbs clutch play also the coolant levels or a loose wheel nut. Then they write a report about all the differnt garages and how they got on (They take the car to 6 or 7 garages ) in the month ..lets say it Mercedes that are due this month .then they write a report on what they missed and what they got right and even test the friendlyness of the staff and how many Kilometers it was roadtested .Get your Newspaper to try this out .The garages are so frightened now that the quality has risen

The cost given in your bill is way higher than what is given on MR website, why is so?
