Very Happy

I'm using DLX in Mumbai sine April 08, has ran around 8k.
But have few queries

1) Any advice on Remote Boot opener ( other than the electrical one recommeded by dealer)

2) How effective & safe is this Immobiliser installed - by defauly

3) Which additional safety future is recommended ( from theives)

1
The best alternative to the auto boot opener is send the wife if its raining
2
the immobiliser is good enough to keep thieves at bay

haha

but seriously, I have installed the boot opener from mahindra renault dealer, I have a DLE model, so there is a problem of there not being a ready switch position for them to mount the boot opening release switch. They will have to manually cut a rectangular hole to fit in the switch.

Based on this they were reluctant to install the boot opener in my vehicle. However I insisted that they get it installed, barring mounting the switch. Right now I have the switch temporarily zip-tied to my handbrake handle. I am going to replace switch with a small round hole mountable pushbutton switch when I get the time.

PostSubject: Re: Remote Boot opener & Immobiliser   Mon Mar 02, 2009 6:01 pm

When i got the remote boot opener installed at the dealership (as a part of the company campaign), i noticed there was a template inside to show where the switch was supposed to be mounted.

However, sadly, there was no idication on where the template was supposed to be placed to cut the hole.

The dealer guy said he would fix it below the hand brake lever where there is a small circular indent (that was where he had installed it for other customers too. When I asked whether it would not get accidentally pressed when releasing the parking brake (bringing down the lever) he had no reply.

I took the template myself and searched around inside, where the template shape would seemingly match the plastic part. Finally, i found one on the plastic part near the clutch pedal (the plastic part that hangs down and somewhere near your left lower leg). While it seems to be an odd position, I had reason to feel it was the place to be because
>it was accessible only by the driver
>there was no chance of it getting pressed accidentally
>it exactly matches the profile shown on the template

I hope i was right.

As far as safety features go, I prefer not having the remote boot opener. I agree that its a pain to have to get out and open the boot for "Security Checks" at malls, hotels, etc. but hear me out.

Not having a remote boot opener means that getting into the boot is tougher for a thief. With the opener installed, someone can easily break/remove a glass and get in, unlock your boot with the opener and get away with your ICE setup. Also, I often have my laptop/other valuables in the boot.

Also, I don't like having security personnel check my boot without me looking over their shoulder - So I like to step out with the key and keep a watch on them as they go thru my boot (call me paranoid if you will). I actually liked the logan for its omission of a boot opener
!

If you must get the remote I guess it makes some sense to get the remote opener switch mounted in a slightly less obvious location (so that it takes a couple of extra seconds for a thief to find it).

My uncle got his switch installed under the dashboard.
